So it looks like Anoma will be heading to Alabama, and Rasheed Walker will be heading to Penn State. Those were the only remaining blue-chip targets for the Terps, so their primary focus likely turns to keeping Boykin's commitment.

Chris Beatty is also recruiting 3-star WR Jeshaun Jones pretty hard, competing mostly with Iowa State and Tennessee. Scott Frost is also making a late push for him at Nebraska, and has easy access to him down in Florida. He'd be a great addition to the receiving corps as a guy with great ball skills and a knack for making big plays.

24x7: 4-Star RB Decommits From USC; Focused On Five

Terps were on Salahuddin early and are on the list of five. He's a HS teammate of Boykin and Flythe. This seems to be playing out pretty similar to how they picked up McFarland last year. The fact that he announced his decommitment from USC the same day he was visiting the UM campus is certainly a promising sign.

EDIT: USC just picked up a commitment from another 4-star RB, so that might rule them out altogether now.

Jones will be announcing his commitment on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.

So, to take an updated look at the Terps' big board, here's the recruits they're making a final push for. As you can see, the majority of Durkin's remaining targets come from Florida.

  • 4-star RB Mychale Salahuddin (Washington, DC)
  • 3-star WR Jeshuan Jones (Fort Myers, FL)
  • 3-star TE Andrew Tuazama (Knightdale, NC) *Likely headed to East Carolina*
  • 3-star OT Hamilton Hall (Atlanta, GA)
  • 3-star BUCK Jason Mercier (Boynton Beach, FL)
  • 3-star WR Tyree Henry (Berlin, MD)
  • 3-star CB Ken Montgomery, Jr. (Tampa, FL) *Likely headed to Louisville*
  • 3-star LB Kevontae' Ruggs (Montgomery, AL) *Likely headed to Alabama*
  • 3-star CB Kendrick Torain (Tampa, FL)
  • 3-star C Zack Zambrano (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

I'd like the DE's, and hope you could develop them.

I'd be looking for the best athletes still on the board, even if unpolished.

Where can I improve my athleticism?

Still hoping MD gets all of their current commits locked up in the next few days (247 has MD's class currently 20th overall).... and that once that is done, the coaching staff can turn attention to another piece or two from now and Feb.

I guess with Boykin not looking to sign now, I'd also be pushing on those Tampa CB's.

And since I always think teams are built lines out, I'm also obviously hoping for the OTs.

Big pickup alert!

The Terps have received a commitment from former 5-star DE Byron Cowart, who has been with Auburn for the past few years. He'll have to sit out the 2018 season, but should be able to step right in and fill Jesse Aniebonam's role as the team's primary pass-rusher.

He was the 3rd-best recruit overall in the 2015 recruiting class.

Seeing conflicting reports as to whether or not Cowart could play this year. He was at Auburn for a few weeks, then went to a Junior College. The growing consensus seems to be that he'll be eligible immediately.

All 20 recruits that were expected to sign Wednesday were official by 9:30 a.m. ET. Cowart makes it 21, and Jones could make it 22 before long.

Cowart has been in the fold for a while I thought?  Keith Cavanaugh has mentioned him for a couple weeks now every time he's on the radio, and he seems to think that he will be able to play right away.

Now officially in the fold...   and the consensus does seem to be that he will have immediate eligibility, and that Jesse will be back as well. That's huge.

Yep, I've gone ahead and updated my projected depth chart and slotted Cowart in at the SDE position across from Aniebonam. DE spots look great, just need to find 2 reliable interior linemen from a deep group of prospects.

3-star WR Jeshaun Jones (Fort Myers, FL) chooses Maryland! He's a big addition, and should compete immediately for a starting job.

Not related to MD, but ran into Thomas Booker at Bagel Bin today lol.

He goes to Gilman and signed with Stanford.  Seemed like a good kid.

According to 24x7, he's not only eligible immediately but he'll have 2 years of eligibility left. It's as if whatever playing time he had this past fall didn't count.

Washington Post: On college football signing day, the fax machine finally goes the way of the single wing

Durkin and his staff took it one step further on Wednesday, using the system to streamline a process that has typically been more chaotic. Instead of faxing and emailing, Teamworks allowed the staff to email a private link with the required documents to each of its prospects, who then could simply sign on their mobile devices and forward the papers to their parent or guardian. Within minutes, the documents were back to Maryland’s staff and being reviewed by director of recruiting operations, David Wilczewski, as well as Cody, the assistant athletic director for compliance who ensures that all of the signatures and date lines (those using the software can also type in numbers onto the documents) were correct before approval.

Kind of excited about the numbers of LB.  You'd think at-least one of them could emerge early.
