This is a list of guys that are usually at a 3+ fWAR that are available this offseason, in the positions of need for the Orioles:
Berkman- 1st
Hamilton- OF
BJ Upton- OF
Melky- OF(at least 3+ the last 2 seasons)
Victorino- OF
Swisher- OF
David Ortiz- DH
Greinke- P
Hamels- P
Haren- has an option but been bad this year..could be a great buy low guy
A Sanchez- P
Anibal Sanchez is a very intriguing guy to look into signing. Haren is owed 15 million...Angels could decline that option and he becomes a guy to really look into if he is healthy.
So, there is some pitching to go after but not a lot of hitting overall. Really nothing in the IF at all...Makes an acquisition of a guy like Headley that much more important.
3+ fWAR talent available via free agency this offseason

Upton, Melky, and Victorino are all intriguing options. Melky and Upton probably would be relatively affordable and do well to shore up our outfield defense. It doesn't solve our 3B issues, but at least it's a start. If we're a .500 team then it probably gives us another 3-5 wins on top of that. That puts us in a good position for a 2013 run, especially if we get Machado next year.

Upton may be a hell of a buy-low candidate for LF.

Those are the official ages for each of those players next season; only Hamilton doesn't have his birthday before Opening Day.
So, while they are traditionally three-plus-win players, you can't really trust Berkman and Ortiz to keep that up. Cabrera is interesting because he has now put together two nice years, but he could also look to turn that into a long-term, expensive deal. I wouldn't go after Victorino or Swisher, because they are likely starting the downside of their careers. And, of course, Greinke and Hamels will get obscene contracts.
Of those players, I would go after Upton and Haren.

Out of those players listed I would only make serious offers to:
Upton
Melky
Haren
Sanchez
I know those listed do nothing for us at 3B but let's face it - that will only be shored up in one of two ways: a trade or calling up Machado and moving Hardy there. 3B FA market is so weak for the next two seasons it's stupid crazy.
