Horrible stats on the year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the O's pick him up as a reclamation project.

2010 2011 2012 Fastball velocity 90.5 mph 89.7 mph 89.1 mph Changeup velocity 81.2 mph 82.8 mph 83.2 mph Slider velocity 80.4 mph 80.9 mph 80.1 mph First-pitch strike rate 57.4% 53.4% 50.7% Swinging strike rate 9.8% 9.7% 7.2% O-Swing rate 28.2% 27.5% 21.4%
What accounts for the changes in Sanchez’s velocity since 2010? Perhaps it’s the left bicep tendinitis that’s bothered him since last season. Or changes in his mechanics. Or maybe it’s the fact that Sanchez will turn 30 years old in November. The last factor would be consistent with the analysis of my colleague Bill Petti, who has studied the decline in velocity as pitchers age and how it affects performance.
Whatever the cause, Sanchez’s declining fastball velocity and increased off-speed velocity tipped the balance, changing him from an effectively-wild pitcher to a wildly ineffective one.

His 694 OPS on the season would be a 65 point increase over what we've gotten out of LF so far this year.

But with Davis in there now, that .644 OPS is likely to go up. I think I'd rather stick Davis out there for some consistent PT. It'd be nice to have a pure OF'er though. But I don't see them putting Davis on the bench, and DFA'ing Chavez, or Flaherty.I would pick him up and give him a shot in LF.

Ha!Not unless Rick Peterson can fix his motion.
Ankiel really is a remarkable story. He was great under that one moment, it was like somebody flicked a switch. I've seen that inning on TV a few times... what happened to that guy is truly amazing...

I'd rather have John Lowenstein, Brooks Robinson and Boog Powell--now--at those positions versus what we are doing.I would rather have Ankiel in LF, Reynolds at third and Davis at first vs what we are doing now.

Not sure what to say about Ankiel, but I agree with you about Reynolds and Davis. I can understand when a player gets the yips. I don't understand when the team does. Earl would have kept putting him out there at 3B...I would rather have Ankiel in LF, Reynolds at third and Davis at first vs what we are doing now.

Take out Reynolds and put in Betemit and I'd go with that one. Designate Chavez for assignment for the roster spot.I would rather have Ankiel in LF, Reynolds at third and Davis at first vs what we are doing now.

Wow, Colorado just giving Guthrie away.Rumors are that the Rockies and Royals are discussing a Jeremy Guthrie and Jonathan Sanchez swap.

Yea, it has happened before. Steve Blass broke our hearts in a WS then could not locate home plate with a road map. Baseball is not an easy game.Ha!
