I would consider a trade for a SP like Tehran or Gray. A package of Schoop, Mancini/Walker, and Sisco might be enough to get those guys and their 2B. Purely conjecture of course. But even though we lose Schoop I think the club is much better overall with a quality starter added to the staff. Even if we ended up using Flaherty as our main 2B.

I like Schoop but I am not near as hot on him as others.

BTW, speaking of Latos and his alleged issues.  He is looking at a one year deal to re-establish his value and with a poor FA class next year, if he has a big year he could easily be looking at a 9 figure deal.

I have to think he will be on his best behavior, if that is even a legit issue, for this coming season or he is really looking at a shit contract for 2017.

I completely agree Latos would be working on reestablishing himself to position him for a multi-year contract after '16...  but I can't imagine any scenario where he would be in-line for a 9 figure deal.

From 2010-2013, he was worth 110 million by fWAR, averaged around 200 IP per season, had an above average K rate and a very good walk rate.

He had a sub 3.50 ERA every year.

If he does that in 2016, being only 29 for 2017, he will be in line for a 9 figure deal, especially in a poor FA market.

You make a good argument. Just again illustrates there is upside there with him.
Signing him remains the easiest move they could make with upside.

This assumes he's capable of thinking it through before he goes off...   as I'm sure we know, not everybody can do that... some folks just blurt first and think later... that's not because they want to, but because they don't have enough impulse control...

I keep hearing Lincecum....  Would he be the everyday 5th?  How bad was the hip injury?  How long before he said anything?

Orioles have expressed interest in free-agent right-hander Tim Lincecum

<p>I am pretty sure Shack is thinking of PBR.

I'm guessing the Padres are going to want Cisco or Mancini as part of deal for Cashner. Not sure we're gonna go there.

I don't think they'll need to pay that much unless SD is being flippant. They may hold onto him, they did with Upton last year for no reason. Hopefully they'll be reasonable and something can be worked out.

Who is this guy reporting? Not sure I buy it, of course we 'could sign him within 24 hours'. I guess we'll see.

There's a number of ways to work with SD.

I'm confident given they've already used most of the 35M from the Dodgers....they'd welcome the opportunity to move him.  The guy is a good player and could certainly use the DH some ovre the next 4 seasons if there is concern about his hip or whatever.  The Pads are maybe playing Myers at 1B because they got Jay also.

Actually, they'd probably love to move Kemp AND Upton.

Upton would make more sense as a 3+ OFer for the Orioles than a guy like Rickard and he happens to be friends with Jones...so there's angles to make that work.

Beyond that, I'd like to swap Tillman and Ross....and there's probably an argument for SD that Tillman would be more likely to accept something like 4/45 than either Cashner or Ross.

So...

If SD would make Kemp a 15M per player

You could swap Tillman and Ross

add Cashner

They take Trumbo and make the non-Cashner salaries even for 2016

Orioles give them Walker and 2 younger arms....

Solve RF...Improve the staff....only adding 8M
