They should've tossed Idris the nom for Beasts of No Nation and prevented all this nonsense from happening.

It's really more of a studio issue than an Academy issue. It would be progress to have more minorities considered for leading roles that are race neutral rather than roles that specifically call on a minority.

Elba getting Bond is progress in that regard.

It is the studios.  But the academy also has a problem.

And to be clear, this is very far from simply an African American issue. It's also an Asian American issue and a Hispanic American problem.

And how often do the obscure awards go to white americans?  But please cherry pick.

Well, I'll cherry pick one to fit your narrative. In the last 16 years, a White American has won best actor seven times. The majority population has won a minority of the time since 2000.

The point is that there isn't a bunch of white Americans winning every award. Mike's point is obvious.

You can argue whether or not that is diverse but it's a fact.

The issue, for me, isn't that no black person was nominated this year. The real point is that there isn't as much opportunity for them it sounds like.

It's the same concept of how women are severely underpaid. Even in the announcement last night before the commercial, they said the awards that everyone will be talking about..best actor and best picture.

And btw, let's be honest. The only reason this is being talked about at the level it is, is because Jada's hubby wasn't nominated and she thought he should have.

So, who are you taking away and is that fair to that actor?

Disagree.  That is a component but Straight Out of Compton only got nominated for writing and that was done by some white guys.  Some thought Micheal B Jordan should have been nominated.  Creed should have been nominated for a best picture.  It kis not unreasonable for Cooglar to have been nominated as director.  Elba was not nominated for BEasts of No Nation and that shocked many ppl.

The whole black actors thing is getting played out now. It deserved to be mentioned and I am glad Rock is the one doing it but enough is enough.

Not just black actors...no Latino or Asian actors nominated too.

You keep saying this should have or that should have.

That is YOUR opinion.  YOUR opinion doesn't mean its true.

Hell, I think comedies get the shaft all the time.  You talk about a prejudice.  That is essentially a genre of movies that never get mentioned, whether actor or movie.  So, I think there is bias for sure and there is no doubt about that.

But, just like the All Star votes and stuff like that, someone will be left out that deserves it.  That's life.  It doesn't mean its happening because they are black.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some dickhead who votes like that but not everything is a conspiracy.

Ok.  Maybe they just didn't do as good a job this year.  Why can't it just be that?

Should they expand the amount of people who get the nominations to make sure this doesn't happen?  Perhaps if they went 6 or 7 deep for best actor, their would have been minorities.

Do we essentially want the Rooney Rule for nominations?

I'm not someone who thinks that the Academy or even Hollywood is racist. At least overtly.

I think there are a lot of politics in place that take precedent over other causes. For instance, right now there is a lot of LGBT movies out there. Is that taking some spotlight from minority actors? Maybe. Hollywood loves movies about Hollywood, too. Those take some spots from minority movies and actors as well when it comes to nomination time.

Elba should have been nominated over any of the Best Supporting Actor nominees, and probably deserved to win over them all, too. That is the only minority performance that I can think of that was a snub. I loved Straight Outta Compton but I don't think it was Best Picture quality.

Spotlight was the movie you watched in high school ethics class or something. OK movie, one of the weakest best picture wins since The Artist.

Mad Max, Room, Brooklyn, The Revenant...all better.

Several movies not nominated were better too.

Leo is just awesome. I know people hate the politics and all but they have the stage so why wouldn't they talk about something they care about while millions are watching? He's in the mold of one of the classic actors...the last of that kind, IMO. Just pure professionalism. I'm happy for him.

Is that official?  I haven't seen the last couple Bond movies.  I liked Daniel Craig, but if Stringer gets the job I'll definitely see that movie.

No, and it still seems unlikely although there is a lot of support for it.

Casino Royale and Skyfall were both great...QOS was OK, haven't seen Spectre yet.

SOOC would not have taken another film off the list.  They only had 8 noms.  I have a feeling Elba was snubbed bc of a Netflix bias.

With Bastille Day I think you can erase Elba off the list.
