Figured I'd keep this "20 years ago" theme going so new year, new thread.
Today is the 20th anniversary of the Blizzard of '96. MD also lost in OT to UNC 88-86.

I worked at Charlestown Retirement Community during 93-97...this week was totally insane there. Everyone called out, 6 people (myself included) did the work that maybe 3 times as many people did for a whole week. Some workers there never left and slept in vacant apartments. Got my Mazda GLC stuck in the snow at the top of my street...4 people were in it, only 3 got out to push and the one who stayed inside never lived it down...the Natl Guard was driving Hummers through Catonsville...it's crazy how much of that I remember so well.

I think we got the whole week off school for that, or at least close to it. And I just looked it up and the storm started on a Saturday. Crazy.

Oh yeah it was definitely a week, maybe more.
I remember my mom forced me to go to school on Memorial Day since they used up too many snow days that year and had class that day. No one was in school, obviously, and I bounced at like 10 AM.

Big year.
Started my senior year that fall.
First O's playoff appearance since 1983. I went to about 12 games that year which was a lot for me back then, including ALDS game 1 and 2, and ALCS game 5 (?) when they were eliminated.
Ravens inaugural season. Went to the game vs the Saints and the final game of the year, vs. Houston.

Yeah I got snowed in at a friend's house, on the third day his father told me I had to go.
I walked across Catonsville to get home.

I remember being in awe about how much goddamn snow was on the ground.
A car is almost completely buried by snow near Fairfax, Virginia after the Blizzard of 1996, January 8, 1996. The storm dropped heavy snow from Washington to Boston. The snowfall at National Airport measured 17.1 inches while the snowfall at Dulles accumulated 24.6 inches. Other snowfall totals included: 21 inches in Fredericksburg, Virginia; 22.5 inches in Baltimore, Maryland; and 25.7 inches in Rockville, Maryland. Kevin Ambrose

They should do one of those ceremonies where you celebrate way after the fact.
