So he got more annually, just for a year less.

Price and Greinke are thought of much more highly.

Thats true. But worth nearly twice as much? I don't think so.

Well worth close to 30M a year, we'll see on the years.

Could end up being a bargain for Detroit, at least in today's market.

So Clayton Kershaw money? No way. Greinke more valuable than Price, but still not $30M per. $25M per maybe.

I think the big contracts like Kershaw are reserved only for the top two or three players in the game. Trout will get an absurd deal like $35M per. Doesn't mean the next superstar will get that money.

I think that If Zimmermann set the bar at $22M per, thats bad news for the other guys. Price can hold out for $30M, but teams will pass and take a guy slightly worse but still very good, and put the other $8M to use in their pen, or a veteran bat, or a back end starter.

Kershaw would have likely gotten more on the open market and salaries continue to rise.

Both guys will get more than 25M imo. Price will probably get 7 years and at least 180M. Greinke might get a shorter deal due to be older.

I tend to think of Kershaws $30M per compares to when ARod got that 10/$256M deal. Mega huge stars get those deals. It doesn't really set the bar for the rest of the market.

Kershaw, Trout, Harper will get those mega huge deals because they are mega huge stars. Greinke will set the bar for the elite, but it won't touch Kershaw's.

We'll see when they sign. I think Price is in the $25M per range, Greinke in the $27M range.

Cueto's the same age and probably just as good, if not slightly better (slightly better ERA+ and average IP). If he wants that extra annual value, I can see him trying to get it now that one guy is off the market.

"ESPN's Jerry Crasnick is hearing from clubs in the Johnny Cueto market that the free agent right-hander wants a contract in the $140-160 million range.

Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reported on Sunday that Cueto turned down a six-year, $120 million offer from the Diamondbacks -- after Arizona upped its initial $110 million offer. These are lofty expectations for a guy who posted a 4.76 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over his final 81 1/3 regular-season innings in 2015. But he was one of the best starters in baseball for a good four-year stretch with the Reds before sliding off the rails a bit in Kansas City. It only takes one inspired owner."

Major League Baseball’s annual drug testing report has been released

They performed about 200 more tests, and saw two fewer positive results.

Greinke is apparently deciding between the Dodgers and Giants 6 year offers worth at least 30M a year.

The opt out coming back to bite the Dodgers.
