Eh, I think it's pretty similar to the past few years. What teams have elevated into that potentially great category?

It seems to me that there are legitimately 4 or 5 teams that could win multiple titles in the next 5 years. Maybe it's always like that but it just seems to be more to me.

I think the same teams that could have won last year can win this year. At least if we're talking about before OKC was removed from the picture due to injury.

Talking longterm, well maybe, I'd have to think about that.

Ok, that wasn't clear.

Now why do you think that's the case?

I just think the state of some of these teams is pretty damn good right now.

I think the word great is thrown around rather easily in sports today but I think some of these teams have great upside.

Last year, GS was one of the best single season teams ever. They were great and it wouldn't surprise me if we saw more of that this year.

Not your teams that are just very good...or a year where you have one great team and then a bunch of good teams...I think we could see more great teams this year.

But again, maybe it's just that this season is new and fresh in my mind and this is normally the case.

Yeah, I don't see this season as being exceptional in that regard compared to the last couple years.

Had a hunch the Blazers might jump out to a fast start....they're such an unknown that the league is still getting the book on them. The rest of this month they play @Memphis, @Houston, Chicago, and twice vs the Spurs and Clippers. We'll know more about who they are by December. I still think it's a 5-10 range lottery team, and that's if they don't decide to strategically tank when the trade deadline rolls around. Would like to see them aim "higher" and get another potential star to pair with Lillard.

I think Rob is correct in that there are more really great teams this year. In my opinion, you have Golden State, Cleveland, OKC, LAC, and the Spurs who could all in 3 championships in a row. I think you could also put Houston in that discussion although I am personally not a big believer in them, that is more personal bias than reality.

I think the case can be made that GS is better than last year when they won the championship. OKC is likely to be better than they ever have been with a better coach, a max player in Kanter who gives them another scoring option, and they have way more depth than usual. The Spurs didn't lose anyone of note (Splitter) and added Lamarcus, David West, Bojanovic, McCallum, and Kyle Anderson is much improved. And the Clips were one win away from the Finals and added a legitimate closer in Paul Pierce (the Clips main problem in recent years is that they have no one to take the last shot with Paul's size) and dramatically bolstered their bench with Stephenson, Josh Smith, and Wesley Johnson. Cleveland is obviously better with Richard Jefferson and Mo Williams and will have their health in a few months.

Each of those 5 teams would be the usual best team in the NBA in any given year IMO.

I agree that some great teams have improved, but I think the great teams for this season were also great, or potentially great (as Rob said) last year, and I'm not sure that the likelihood of multiple teams having dynasties over the next 5 years has increased.

So if the point is that the elite teams are even more elite, I can get behind that, but that's not really what was said.

Btw, Kanter is not a max contact level player, not even close.

Would need to see next 5 games for each.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

I'll predict the Warriors go down next Thursday at LAC

Obviously it's early but I'm surprised we haven't seen better offense from OKC under Billy Donovan. Scott Brooks had an insane record, the one big gripe with him was that he didn't have enough creative offensive sets. We've pretty much seen more of the same under Donovan. I know it's early but we saw Kerr's system evident early last year, Hoiberg's this year...so a little disappointed in that.
