@Orioles: The Orioles have placed RHP Jason Garcia on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis, retroactive to May 11.

.@Orioles reinstate RHP Jason Garcia from 60-day DL; option RHP Mychal Givens to Double-A Bowie.

Oh my god he's back.

MASN: Wrapping up the second day of workouts (with photos)

http://www.masnsport...f-workouts.html

Jason Garcia no longer has Rule 5 status and can be optioned to the minors, but Showalter isn't eliminating him from the camp bullpen competition.

Asked whether he's noticed any changes in Garcia this spring, Showalter replied, "I saw it the last two months of the season. We all saw it. He knows he belongs, he can do this. He might even do it this year in April. Who knows?

"This guy's competing for a spot. It's just about gaining trust in him. He's got a good arm. We said 100 times last year, if we can get through the year we're going to like having this guy in our organization next year. Not that we didn't last year. He pitched like one of the guys for periods last year. I was glad where he ended up the end of the year. I would have signed up for that.

"He has a chance to be pretty good. I think a lot of the debate now is about him starting versus relieving. Whether you put him in as a reliever and he throws two to three innings every third day or do you start him with the four days and the work day? Then you run into some inning issues if you start him, which you can control. That's provided he doesn't make this club. I expect him to have a good spring. I never tell the guys I expect to have a bad spring."

27 runs (22 earned) in 26.2 IP over his first 6 starts.  41(!) hits, 18(!) walks, 2 HBP, 2 HR, and just 10 K.

Wow. Forgot all about that guy...guess I know why.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

One of the reasons why I wish the Orioles were not so in love with the Rule 5.

You tie up a roster for a year in hopes you find gold.

Rickard is doing okay, although he is down the last couple of weeks

Flaherty, is a meh, type player.  Decent or better, with the glove.

A zero with the bat.

TJ...been on the elevator since he got here...a back end of the staff type guy.

Garcia....took up space last year and struggling big at AA.

Not sure any of them, are worth playing with a 24 man roster.

DD is really lacking as a GM IMO.

Why are you wasting time with him in the rotation?

It's obvious that Jason has struggled at Bowie.  His numbers aren't good: 1-5 (7games), 6.47 ERA, 32 IP, 48H, 31R (23 earned), 20 BB, 13 K, WHIP 2.13

I'm thinking he is adjusting to being stretched out as a starter and come around as the season progresses.

Is he still seen as a RP?

Have to think they know he isn't a starter and perhaps they are just giving him as much work as possible to refine his stuff.

He did not pitch much last year so maybe they are trying to knock the rust off.
