The Ironbirds have their home opener tomorrow night at Ripken Stadium at 7:05 PM. Anyone going? I might be working.

I'm not a big minor league guy but some of the names I recognize from their lineup are:
Coffey
Vader
Bernadina
Boss (from '12 draft)
Rowell (as a pitcher)

@IronBirds It would be difficult to play a game with the fog over Ripken Stadium this morning.

Cal Ripken Jr. is in early talks to sell a majority stake in the Aberdeen IronBirds, the popular minor-league franchise the Hall of Famer has owned in his hometown since 2002.

The move is a continuation of a plan by Ripken Baseball — headed by Cal and brother Bill — to divest its interest in minor-league teams and focus on growing its youth baseball business, said John Maroon, a spokesman for Ripken. At one time Ripken owned three minor-league clubs, but since 2013 has sold the Augusta (Ga.) GreenJackets and Charlotte Stone Crabs in Florida.

After 13 years, the Cal Ripken Major/70 World Series, a Babe Ruth League international tournament for players ages 11 and 12, is leaving Aberdeen, and the baseball complex that includes a stadium and youth baseball complex bearing the Ripken name.

Ripken Baseball, which hosted the tournament locally for 10 days each summer, and the Babe Ruth organization both confirmed the impending move.

"They [Ripken Baseball] made the decision they didn't want to host it anymore," Babe Ruth Vice President/Commissioner Robert Faherty, Jr. said. "We were advised that Ripken Incorporated was no longer going to host the event."

It costs about $100,000 to host the World Series, according to Faherty.
