While she gave it all she had, that wasn't a pretty showing for Serena at Wimbledon today, nor did it come against a formidable opponent (Tan was ranked #115 coming in). Gotta think that might well be her swan song, at least when it comes to singles in the majors.

Serena just looked exhausted in the third set.

I only saw the highlights of the match, which of course are subject to cherry-picking to suit the narrative of who is telling the story. But every account I've seen indicates Serena looked rusty at the start (to be expected when you haven't played a competitive singles match in a full year), found her groove in the second set, but just couldn't sustain it in the decisive third set.
If this were 5 years ago, I could believe that going back to "grinding" could elevate her back to a point where she could make a serious run at a title in a GS. At 40 years old, in a sport where players are usually over-the-hill by their mid-30s, I don't see it. Not in tournaments where you have to win 7 rounds against increasingly elite competition.
Naturally the media dug at her after the match for some sign of her future plans, and she understandably deflected....no good reason to make or announce such a big decision at that moment. But this is a point in time where people will naturally speculate whether this is it for arguably the greatest player the sport has known.

Krygios is a hothead and has been up to his usual antics during this tournament. It will be interesting to see if he can keep his cool should he face Novak( a guy that he hates) in the final.

There was more to that stat.. Vlad, Bichette and Biggio also recorded a hit in 2000 while in 2022 their kids each had a hit.

I very seldom watch tennis. Tonight, I'm reminded of when I got drawn into that US Open run Jimmy Connors went on back in 1991, making it all the way to the semifinals at 39 y/o. Unfortunately it came to an early end for him as well as for Serena tonight.
