Makes sense, they should def be an FBS school, good for them.  CUSA is a strong conference. Sucks not seeing them play Towson anymore, that was always fun.

They obviously have some money laying around. They will be the first school to pay the NCAA's ridiculous fee increase for applying to move up to FBS. It used to be $5,000. Now it costs $5M.

$5M to move up to FBS in football1?  Paying some of the NCAA execs and lawyers.   Well, Towson will never get there then.

Some details have leaked about Oregon State and Washington State's plans for a football schedule next season. They will formally be in the Pac-whatever conference, but will almost be quasi-independent.

6 of their games will apparently come from the Mountain West, with three at home and three on the road. The MWC would go from an 8-game conference schedule to 7+1, where each team would play 7 conference games plus one against either OSU or WSU. For their trouble, the Pac-2 will pay the MWC $14M.

OSU/WSU would not be eligible for the MWC title, and thus not eligible to claim one of the conference champion auto-bids to the CFP, as the CFP set the bar for eligible champions to come from a conference with a minimum of 8 teams. So the only way either could make the expanded CFP is as an at-large (good luck).

Both teams already have previously scheduled OOC games against other power conference/FCS teams, but some of those were MWC teams, so they will likely need more games. Washington State does now have its Apple Cup game with Washington scheduled, and Oregon/Oregon State are apparently working on trying to do the same, but they have more obstacles to overcome than the WA schools.

Also, both schools will likely play each other twice, home-and-home. So with all that said, each will probably still need to pick up two more games from somewhere to get to 12.

It sounds like the scheduling arrangement between the Pac-2 and Mountain West is finalized. All 12 MW teams will play 7 conference games and one game against either Oregon State or Washington State. OSU/WSU are not eligible for the MWC championship and the +1 games will not count in the MW standings. Think of it as something similar to Notre Dame's arrangement with the ACC.

Delaware might think it's worth $5M to go to FBS just because they won't have to play any more games in Montana.

UPDATE: As expected, the judge granted OSU/WSU the preliminary injunction. Also as expected, the attorney for the Pac-12 stated they will appeal to the Washington Supreme Court and asked the judge for a temporary restraining order, which the judge granted through the end of the week.

In a somewhat surprising decision, the Washington Supreme Court says it will not review the lower court decision that essentially gave immediate control of the Pac-12 to Oregon State and Washington State. That also means the TRO in effect while the court considered reviewing it is lifted.

The departing 10 members could still try to go through the federal courts, but for now, they have no say in conference operations (though the lower court judge did say OSU/WSU must act in a "fair and reasonable manner"). Still think this likely ends in a settlement where the 10 leaving members pay some sort of "exit fee," even though the bylaws say they don't have to once the grant-of-rights expires at the end of this school year.

Can FSU crap or get off the pot? They’ve been threatening to leave the ACC for it seems like a decade now.

The Pac-2 (Oregon State and Washington State) have reached a settlement with the 10 other departing schools. The 10 have agreed to forfeit an undisclosed amount of their current school year revenue, as well as provide "specific guarantees against potential future liabilities" (namely lawsuits).

This always seemed the most likely outcome, and became even more likely once the WA Supreme Court denied a request to review a lower court decision that gave OSU/WSU sole control of the conference board, and thus sole control over decision-making.

Also today the West Coast Conference made it official that they will add OSU/WSU as affiliate members in all sports except football and baseball for the next two school years. The two have 30 days to decide whether they want to join for baseball as well, but are examining whether they want to go independent or see if they can join a power conference as a baseball affiliate member. Oregon State in particular has a strong baseball program and may be attractive to bigger conferences, as well as having the ability to build a strong schedule if they do go independent.

The FSU board unanimously approved filing a lawsuit seeking to challenge the ACC's grant of rights. School attorneys are expected to file a complaint in Tallahassee circuit court later today. Due to the weekend/holiday, it could be several days before copies of the legal action are publicly available.

They're gone, Clemson will go with them.

See people rumoring the Big Ten, or Big 12 with them the last few days... pretty hard for me to imagine it won't be the SEC.

Seems like a better geographic and culture fit.

That takes the SEC to 18.

If FSU, and Clemson pull the plug... then all eyes go to UNC, and NCST.  Well, really UNC, with lil bro in tow.

Big Ten should be pushing for UNC, NCST, UVA....  and one of Notre Dame (their dream), or Georgia Tech (much more likely). Also still believe they should be adding Stanford and Cal too, with the Big Ten having 4 divisions...  with ND, something like:

D1:
Maryland
UNC

UVA
Penn State
Rutgers
NCST

D2:
Michigan
Michigan State
Ohio State
Indiana
Illinois
Notre Dame

D3:

Iowa

Minnesota

Purdue
Nebraska
Northwestern
Wisconsin

D4:
UCLA
USC
Oregon
Washington
Cal

Stanford

Worth mentioning one more time....regardless of how one may feel about the loss of tradition and rivalries, today should serve as a reminder of how wise it was for MD to join the Big Ten.

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion FSU leaves. At least not yet (until we end up with what seems like the inevitable Super League). This suit could just be posturing for them to negotiate unequal revenue sharing with the ACC (they already got that for postseason appearance money, but may now be coming for all conference revenues to be unequally shared). Any issue they mention about the CFP snub is moot, since starting next year they would automatically be a Top 4 seed, with a bye, as long as they win the ACC Championship.....and the path to that will be much, much easier than it would be in the SEC.

Even if they do go, I don't see them being additive to the SEC. They don't expand the conference's footprint into new territory. And more importantly, ESPN owns full rights to both conferences....so why would ESPN agree to pay an SEC price for a school they already have at an ACC price? As we've seen with the SEC's debate over 8 or 9 conference games, if ESPN isn't willing to fund it, the conference won't do it.

The Big Ten makes more sense in terms of expanding the conference. And of course ESPN is no longer involved in the Big Ten, though whether Fox sees enough value in FSU to make it worth their while is a whole other matter. Also, the Big Ten would have to waive their unwritten rule that all new members must be AAU members for FSU to join.

I saw someone say it yesterday, and have long thought so, but to the SEC and maybe even the Big Ten UNC and UVA might be the more valuable additions. Which sounds weird given the status of their football programs vs FSU/Clemson, but UNC/UVA expand the footprint for both conferences and are heavily populated states....and even in the cord-cutting era, that means they still bring in significantly more money for conference-specific networks.
