Spitballing how this shakes out:

USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Washington to the Big Ten

Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State to the Big 12

Oregon State, Washington State are left without a chair and probably have to go Mountain West.

This is ultimately going to set up as two 20+ megaconferences being the SEC and the Big Ten.

Once the Big Ten gobbles up the western schools, both conferences' next target will be UNC and then we'll go from there where they pluck the rest of the ACC desirables.

It's time to start considering renaming these conferences. Eventually their size and membership is going to bear absolutely no resemblance to their roots. It'll just be the college version of the AFC and NFC.

UNC and Duke aren't ever going to the SEC.   Once it looks inevitable to them that the ACC's days are numbered they'll jump to the Big Ten.

Anyone see it differently?

Pete Thamel reporting that the USC/UCLA move is all but official, and an announcement from the Big Ten is expected to happen soon.

Agree. If they could have them today, the Big Ten would welcome Duke, UNC, UVA and GA Tech.

I think they'd rather have GaTech vs. NCST... but I think Duke / UNC insist on NCST and then UVA likely wins out over GaTech despite the Atlanta market.

Honestly, I don't know that they (meaning Duke and UNC) would have the leverage to demand who joins with them. This feels more like everyone on a sinking ship scrambling for the life rafts, and it's every man for himself.

NC State and VA Tech would both be a better fit for the SEC.

That is a legitimate point about the leverage.  I just can't see them (Duke, UNC) ever going to the SEC... so that limits their position if that assumption is true.

Their potential leverage is staying firm, and trying to carve out a path forward for the ACC.

Which again, I think for them has to start with convincing Notre Dame to fully join.

Future Big Ten:

Southeast Division: Maryland, Rutgers, UVA, UNC, Duke, GA Tech

North Division: Penn St, Ohio St, Michigan, Michigan St, Indiana, Purdue

Midwest Division: Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnestoa, Nebraska

Pacific Division: USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Oregon, Washington

I know they've been talking about scrapping divisional formats, but at some point when you have so many members that span so much geography, you have to break things down or the logistics become untenable.

They (SEC & Big Ten) are both going to get to at-least 24 imo.

SEC at 16 with Texas and Oklahoma.

Maybe Clemson, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Oklahoma State, Baylor, TCU, Miami, Houston?

Big Ten at 16 with USC and UCLA.

Maybe Duke, UNC, Virginia, Oregon, Washington, NCST, California, Stanford?

Then it's what happens with:

Notre Dame, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, West Virginia, UCF, Cincinnati, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon State, Utah, Washington State, Boston College, BYU

Maybe the Big Ten and SEC both get to 30?

I really hate the idea of conferences this large.  Are we eventually just going to devolve into 3 conferences for the entire country?  What's the meaning of conferences at this point? When you have teams that play each other maybe once every 3 or 4 years in football, it kind of devalues the meaning of conference play.

It’s all gonna be the same. PAC 12 just becomes the Big 10 West

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Just look at it like the NFL, the AFC and NFC. That's pretty much where this is headed. What's been known as major college football will look and feel even more like a developmental league than it was before.

Several schools - most of them from the Pac-12 - have contacted the Big Ten about joining the conference, sources tells . The Big Ten, as they did USC and UCLA, will review and study potential options, but nothing is expected soon/imminent.
