Would be awesome for the Mountain West.

Yeah, it's a no-brainer for them IMO. They're currently at 11 all-sports members with Hawaii as football-only.

Gonzaga would immediately add cache to what is a recently-struggling basketball conference. They would essentially be the "replacement" for Hawaii.

Seems like a win-win for both sides. I personally like my little pet project scenario of Gonzaga to the Big East but at this point since it hasn't happened yet, I don't think it is in the cards.

Gonzaga has also spoken to the Big East I’m told. Zags are a national brand looking to capitalize on 20 years of success

That's the biggest east I've EVER seen.

Perhaps you haven’t seen Kim Kardashian.

I'd do it. I think it's a win for both parties.

He did an analysis and realized he wouldn't receive an automatic top-4 seed to the dance every year and opted to stay put. It wouldn't feel right for Gonzagians, having to earn it.

It was the right move for them. They basically forced the West Coast Conference to give in to their demands and they got absolutely everything they wanted.

1. Reduced conference games from 18 to 16 (thus having Gonzaga play the absolute dregs of the conference less).

2. Revenue distribution changes (allows Gonzaga to actually recoup more money from what is always their tournament success and no one else's from the conference)

3. The top two seeds in the WCC will receive double byes until the semi-finals (frankly, all conferences should do this to ensure their top teams make the conference tournament finals).

And they can schedule 2 other good games by having 2 less conference games.

4.  Lets them be fake every year and receive an artificially high seed.

The WCC needs Gonzaga as much as Gonzaga needs them, so it was probably inevitable.

Would they move back to FCS football if that's the case?

It's highly likely they're going to be the worst team in all of FBS this year, so it's not some huge loss.

Realistically, I see three options for them:
1. Go independent (with the help of FS1)
2. Ask the MAC or Sunbelt or some lower league to be football only
3. Drop down to FCS.

On another note, to say this is a huge coup for the Big East conference is an understatement.
1. You add a national brand of basketball with a top flight coach on the rise
2. You re add a team with history and established rivals.
3. You steal a university from a “peer” conference, the AAC, which elevates you further above that conference.
4. You add the nearby UConn fan base to MSG, furthering attendance which is already at almost sold out capacity annually.
5. The FS1 contract remains intact which had an escalator to ensure adding an 11th (or 12th) member kept everyone making $5M annually.
6. You get to keep the round robin schedule, going to 20 games like the ACC and Big Ten.
