Just 18 months ago, they won the AL Central again, and now they're literally looking like they're going to be historically bad this year. It's amazing to me how far they've fallen. I know the Morneau injuries, and Mauer contract really hurt them, but they've really fallen fast. They were a model franchise for so long, winning divisions despite a small payroll, always developing their own guys...etc. It's a shame.
A couple bad drafts can hurt BAD. Sano is the only smart move they have made in a while. Gibson hurt them because he could have helped this season, but the injury buried him. Morneau and Mauer are JUST showing signs of bouncing back, but they need young GOOD talent around them to have a chance, and they missed their window on that. They should be retooling right now like OAK does and trying to make a run in 2-3 years. I don't know what they have with positive trade value though.

What I find ironic is once they decided to spend money(they are about 10th in payroll now), they really declined. The Mauer contract is looking really bad, but any big contract like that is going to be risk.Just 18 months ago, they won the AL Central again, and now they're literally looking like they're going to be historically bad this year.
