Magic number is five

Curious what people think

If they get Westburg and Urias back and they manage to get into the Post Season

Who goes to the post season?

Holiday?

Mayo?

Elroy Jimenez?

Rivera?

Slater?

Kjerstad?

I'm not convinced they'll get Mountcastle back but if you add Mountcastle the above calculus gets even tougher.

thoughts?

Gave my thoughts here.

https://forum.baltim...september-13th/

Starting C) Rutschman (1)
Starting Infield & DH) Urias, Henderson, Westburg, Mountcastle, O’Hearn (5)
Starting OF) Cowser, Mullins, Santander (3)
Bench) McCann, Jimenez, Slater, Holliday, Mayo, Kjerstad (6)
Starters) Burnes, Eflin, Rodriguez (3)
Bullpen) Cano, Dominguez, Soto, Perez, Akin, Webb, Coulombe, Suarez (8)

Based on the most recent news on Rodriguez, that's probably not likely.

Eflin

Suarez
Kremer

Jimenez was a lottery ticket that didn’t pan out. He’s an easy drop, especially since he provides zero PR or fielding.

They very well may go with 14 position players and 12 pitchers. Or maybe even 15-11. Im not sure if there is a limit in the postseason like there is reg season. But Urias and Westy will be on if healthy. If its a straight swap for those 2 it will be Mayo and Rivera gone.

Interesting

My current guess:

Starting C) Rutschman (1)
Starting Infield & DH) Urias, Henderson, Westburg, Mountcastle, O’Hearn (5)
Starting OF) Cowser, Mullins, Santander (3)
Bench) McCann, Jimenez, Slater, Holliday, Mayo, Kjerstad (6)

Has anything you've seen from Soto or Rivera changed that opinion?

He has 15 position players there. So if thats the case you can drop Mayo for either one of Soto or Rivera. Mayo is the first guy off right now. Im pretty sure of that

Not for me.

I could see either being kept over Mayo or Holliday I guess.

I know staffs are limited to 13 pitchers...  I don't see a rule that they have to carry 13 pitchers though, which is why I've only included 11.

Anyone know if I have this wrong... do they have to carry 13?

If Urias is recalled tomorrow it will be interesting to see who they ship out first. It will be one of Soto, Rivera, Mayo. When Westy comes back another will go. Then if Mounty makes it back the 3rd will go

Who they keep as the last arm or two on the pitching side will come down to who we match up against. Have to remember you can change your roster after each round. For WC round I would expect

Eflin
Burnes
Kremer
Suarez
Dominguez
Cano
Webb
Perez
Akin
Soto

Assuming Coloumbe is back add him to the list too.

If they are allowed to go 15 position players for the WC series and Mounty is back I think it will be

McCann
Rutsch
Mounty
OHearn
Urias
Holliday
Westy
Henderson
Slater
Mullins
Santander
Cowser
Kjersted
Jimenez
Soto

I feel like Im missing someone. If its 14 you take Soto off.

Don't need 4 starters for a 3-game series.

I think they likely keep a 4th in the pen. The question is who gets game 3. Kremer or Suarez. I lean Kremer right now.

If I'm reading the rules right, there is no max on position players.  Can only carry a max of 13 pitchers but can carry less.

Only a 3-game series, but no days off.  Could ask your reliable BP guys to pitch 3 straight days, but that's a bit of a gamble especially when you're gonna pull starters in the 4th or 5th if there is trouble.

They don't really need 4 starters for the ALDS either. Games are on the 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th. 4 days rest for games 4 and 5 if necessary. Depends how the rotation shakes out for end of year and the wild card round though, WC is on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and of course you go with Burnes and Eflin whenever you can. Wonder what Grayson's status is.

My sense is he will be used out of the pen if he makes it back.  Also think that probably wouldnt be til the division series at the earliest

Probably true for both of those. Bullpen help is needed. Even with the way the hitting has gone the BP still feels like the weakest part of the team.

Jimenez, Slater, and Rivera can go home for the playoffs. Roll with what you started with including a few coming back from the DL.

Slater will make the roster because you need a third decent glove.

Agree no need for Jimenez, Rivera, or Soto.  Maybe Jimenez if Mountcastle doesn't return, but frankly I'd rather have any of our LH bats against a LHP than Jimenez at this point.
