There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Yesterday Santander looked like a guy who could use a day off.

With a less than fantastic starter we are facing this is probably a good day to give guys a day off.

I generally try to stay away from mercilessly beating on a player but this nonsense with Mateo has to end. Ortiz is younger than Mateo, just as capable with the glove as Mateo and absolutely going to give you more at the plate than Mateo. What is the hold up?
It made sense to hold onto him up to the trade deadline in case the Orioles made a bigger deal involving some of those middle infield prospects. No sense in suddenly leaving themselves short, but that time has passed and they're all still here. I've seen it suggested that they're keeping him with an eye on the postseason in the hope that his speed can win them a close game at some point.
Mateo obviously cannot handle a bench role as evidenced by his gaffes in the field. As I've said before, I think part of his problem is mental. Going from an everyday player to an end of the bench guy has gotten in his head. Some guys can't make that transition. In Mateo's case, however, he helped make the situation what it is now.
Hard to believe, but at one time, Mateo was a higher-rated prospect than Aaron Judge.

I would rather have a player in the lineup who can help us avoid a situation where we need a pinch runner late. To use a soccer analogy. Because it tends to be a low scoring affair it heightens the chance that a refs call can influence the outcome. To which a good coach tells his players just go score more goals so you don't get into that position in the first place.
Yes easier said than done perhaps. But the point is keeping a guy on the roster whose game has pretty much devolved to where his only value is as a pinch runner is roster spot better used by someone else who brings more to the table.

LOL at Lindor.
Dude had a professional, Grade A at bat vs Kremer, and drilled a pitch for an opposite-field/gap double.
Then he gets popped trying to steal third with Alonso at the plate.

That Lindor play is probably a microcosm of why the Mets are doing as bad as they are.
I live in NY Metro area so I have seen a fair amount (More that I wanted to ) Mets games and BaltBird YOU NAILED IT !!!!!
