I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I stand by Room being the best movie of the year, but The Revenant, Mad Max and Hateful Eight are strong contenders.

I also loved non-Oscar fodder like Creed and Star Wars.

The Big Short left me cold and while I enjoyed The Martian, I don't think it's Oscar-worthy.

Surprisingly, no LGBT or "Ain't Hollywood Great" movies were nominated for best picture -- they're usually shoo-ins for that category and I thought Trumbo and Carol might sneak in because of that.

I thought they nominated 10 movies for best picture now.  Are they saying only 8 movies were deserving or did they lower the limit?

Thats the first thing I noticed. Probably means Eddie Redmayne wins best actor by a land slide.

They changed it to nominating the number of films they thought deserved to be nominated.

I think now they can choose between five and ten each year for the official nominations. That way they can recognize more or fewer films each year depending on what they feel is worthy.

No I think this is Leo's year. He deserves it.

Also, no black nominees for the second year in a row.

I am guessing like HOF votes you have to get a certain percentage to get a nomination.

Exactly.

And Idris Elba is the biggest snub.

It is. Great movie.

It would be amazing if Mad Max could somehow win best picture.

I think Beasts kind of weakened as it went along. Solid first effort from Netflix, though and Elba should have been nominated over Ruffalo.

I believe it is. He's great in The Revenant. He does so much without even speaking that much.

Would have been difficult and probably not very genuine or good for him to address the controversy without making it uncomfortable for those in the room.

It was uncomfortable, but funny.

Not sure about the Stacey Dash thing, though.
