Gonzalez vs. Happ

An important swing game tonight.

While losing another game in the standings with a loss is not that big a deal at this point, we play Toronto a "few" more games, and momentum is pretty important.  We need to make an offensive statement!

Not too concerned about tonight, one way or another -- every game is "big" until further notice. They haven't lost back-to-back games in over a month, no need to panic.

Ha, I try to keep these posts to a minimal, can't recall the last time I made one of them. I look forward to discussing the "important important" games next month.

Seriously.

I agree with him... to a point. He's totally right that a larger percentage of the season (roughly 30%) exists after tonight. So, tonight only means so much.

Also understand that momentum in baseball is 'the next night's starter.'

That said, there are games which have more weight imo than what shows statistically.  For example the Chris Davis pitched game in Boston 2 years ago. In some ways just a win in May... in other ways, a mental hurdle cleared.

Those things only matter if sustained... and you can rightfully argue because they have to be sustained they only individually matter so much; but I do believe marathon seasons are built on moments.

Winning or losing tonight won't define the O's 2014 season, but I do think it matters more than just determining if the O's will leave Toronto with a 3 or 5 game lead over the Jays.

The way I see it is short of a major injury, we'll be OK if we lose tonight. And if we're not OK, it won't be because of tonight. I'm not sure how sustainable the current stretch is to avoid consecutive losses and other bad stretches.

I do believe Buck is good at turning the page, but I think that also speaks to the talent level on the team. I don't think Buck is doing that with the teams assembled during the pre-2009/10 eras.

I think a win or loss tonight helps the narrative more than anything else, since it will be 2 out of 3 and the rubber game but this likely won't be a season-defining win or loss IMO.

Yeah I know some people don't like these posts, it's been a while since the last time I did one of these. We all have our things we burn into the ground, I'll try to spare you one of these posts for a while now.
