I wonder if the lack of a Triple Crown winner has to do with the breeding at all.  Is the gene pool getting shallow or are there just too many horses that were bred from special horses that it's evened the playing field a bit?

There are more horses bred for speed nowadays than bred for distance.
 

There's a saying in the industry that there are three things that owners and breeders now look for

Speed, speed, and speed.

Yeah but I read the apology, he's congratulating the winning horse -- I think he feels cheated by horse racing today still. If he had just said, "I'm sorry for the distraction." that would've been more honest.

Guilty as charged..

 

I realize it's not 1952 anymore, so I don't expect a ton of threads on it, but yea, I've been into it my whole life. I've owned and bred horses, in fact, my Grandfather was an owner back in the day, and his most successful horse was named "Li'l Seth"...Yes, I'm named after a horse.
