I did the Patapsco River from Avalon to Nick's Fish House yesterday. It was a 9 mile trip, but the river was moving quickly. My buddy and I did it in 3.5 hrs.

Getting across the river where it opens up downtown was tough, rowing into the wind and current for about 15 mins.

Beautiful ride. I really love the Patapsco.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I do down at Little Assawoman Bay sometimes. I don't measure distance or time though.

Never. Btw, I prefer Big Assawoman Bay.

People who say otherwise are liars. Kayaking can get dangerous really quickly, so be prepared before you go. It's incredibly isolating.

I did Daniels to Ellicott City yesterday...first time I've taken my boat in class II & III rapids. Had a lot of fun, but I fell in the drink near Oella by "Suicide Falls" the biggest rapid on the river. Almost lost my boat but somehow managed to grab it and get it to a safe place, full of water and sinking.

In short, I found out my kayak isn't made for class III rapids.

Now that I know you're OK I probably would have paid a good $20 to witness this.

Of course there were 3 stoners sitting where I made it to shore, struggling to get my sinking boat out of the water, while trying not to get sucked back into the main current. They were just sitting there watching...didn't offer to help, nothing. Once I and my gear were OK they asked me if I was OK.

Good for them.

Anyone here own a kayak?

Been obsessed with it lately...did Woodstock to Daniels yesterday...easy run.

Waiting for some floats to arrive and then I am going to do Daniels to Ellicott City again. Last time I almost lost my boat on some Class III's.

I have one, but not a good one. We have it and two other kayaks at the beach house and go kayaking in Little Assawoman Bay. So obviously no rapids.

Kelly and I will be whitewater rafting in West Virginia this summer though.

Love whitewater rafting. Did the Deschutes River out in Oregon about 10 years ago in Scouts and I absolutely loved it. Highly recommend going anywhere to try it if you haven't.

My family has a bunch at our river house but it's mostly just standing water (Bird River by White Marsh).

This website has been a great resource for local rivers, how they are running, and what to look out for while kayaking.
