BSL: Replays and Transfers
http://baltimorespor...lays-transfers/

I take a look at the new replay system and the ridiculous interpretations of the transfer.

Good.

They'll never admit it, but John Kruk going off on National TV in our game vs. Red Sox Sunday probably helped the cause.

I think that was the first terrible call on National TV, but don't quote me on that.

Watching Mid Atlantic Sports Report right now, and it seems MLB has changed the Transfer rule which means the "catch" Flaherty didn't catch the other night, which helped lead us to losing the game, would be now ruled an OUT and not SAFE...

So glad they change it after the fact...freakin MLB....

They didn't scrap the rule, they just changed it.

The change is interesting because, as Joe Torre described it, now instead of proving possession by pulling the ball out with the throwing hand, a player simply has to "voluntarily" open his glove to get the credit (and if the ball pops out in the transfer, no harm). While I think the new rule is a better description of what a catch should be, I don't know if it will be better from a judgement standpoint.

More than likely, umpires are just being told to make sure the ball is in the glove long enough to make it fair to call an out, instead of worrying about judging a "voluntary" open glove from 200 feet away.

They scrapped the way they've been calling it, and going to back to the way we've all watched the game since we were kids.

True, and that's the goal (and probably the result). I just find the language interesting.

True, but we got the benefit of it in Detroit earlier in the season...We were 1-1 with the transfer calls.

Thankfully, it's over.

In case anyone missed this a few weeks back, this was easily the worst of those calls..
