I disagree with the people who say that it's only a week and be patient. This team needs a sense of urgency. Turn it around today.
I agree about needing to have the sense of urgency. The games count... you don't want to dig a hole. I wouldn't preach patience. I would preach averages... generally think things even out.
Whatever though.. like you said, just focus on today. Win today.

What will it average out to? 80 wins? 78? Less?
Aside from a good April this team was a .500 team last year. I don't see them being much better than that thus far. They look much worse. Things will improve, I am sure, but to the tune of what?

I thought they were an 89 win team on Opening Day, and a week of poor play doesn't change that opinion for me. The only thing that would alter my opinion after a week, would have been a catastrophic injury. That hasn't occurred... so my feelings about the team remain the same.
If Hardy's spasms become something more serious... if we learn that Machado won't return until June (MASN's Dave Johnson said he had heard that rumored on the Saturday prior to Opening Day)... then those are things I think might prove too difficult to overcome in the AL East.
The O's are going to be who we thought they were.
An offense with limited on-base skills, good slugging... will score an above average amount of runs (partly due to park effects).. good defense...... starting pitching that is competent, but not elite... some capable bullpen arms who might have trouble locking things down...but overall will be as good as the rotation in-front of them.

Losing Machado and Hardy this early in the season hurts because Schoop isn't ready for the majors yet and Flaherty/Lombo aren't very good. It's one thing to have Flaherty at second as your only offensive blackhole. It's quite another to have to play Flaherty, Lombo and Schoop because you don't have other infielders.
Having to play Lombo and Schoop instead of Machado and Hardy probably costs this club about six wins offensively and another three or so defensively. If you thought this club was an 85 win team before then it's now a 75 win team and it's not going to look pretty.
Either Hardy and Machado will come back and this team will look better or they won't and we'll get a good draft pick.

Having just one of the Lombo/Flaherty/Schoop triangle of automatic outs I can deal with if Machado and Hardy were healthy. I can't deal with all 3.

No Hardy, have to think if he's not playing in a day or two, he's on the DL.

Delmon Young batting 2nd against a righty, career 305 OBP. Would've given good odds against that ever happening this season.

Not bad..
I'd have changed a few words, maybe "This lineup looks AWESOME today" (different adjective, and going ALL CAPS definitely conveys more excitement).
"Watch out Yankees, here we come" is a solid effort for sure.
I'm proud of you, man.

Gotta crawl before you can walk, brother.
I'll check back in when it's 6-0 Yankees in the 4th later today to see how you're doing!
Just practice this:
"Hey, at least Chen made it out of the second, and Stinson really looked good only giving up 2 inherited runners"

I look at it this way: We're 2 games out of 1st place...The Yankees are 4-3. We have 2 less wins. Freakin' relax! We got this! However, if Ubaldo continues to suck monkey weenies, we could be screwed.

I predict a breakout for the offense. 4-2, Yanks.
