There was a bit of discussion in the General thread on the subject, but I thought it might be worth its own thread. What movie, or movies, generally considered "great", did you not like.

Mine is 2001: A Space Odyssey. I watched it a decade ago, and absolutely hated it. I thought it was too long and slow, and I didn't get the ending.

I've heard people say that you really need to watch it multiple times to get it. But I honestly have no desire to do that.

Pan's Labyrinth. Haaaaated it.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

I've already said it, but I could not stand Citizen Kane.  I've seen so many people call it the greatest movie ever, but it was just so boring.

I hate everything I've seen from Scorsese, the big ones of those being Goodfellas and The Departed.  I'm guessing I just don't like his style.

I REALLY hated Wall-E.  I didn't like Up, Toy Story 3, or Ratatouille either.  I don't think Pixar's made a great movie since The Incredibles.

I didn't hate it, but I didn't like The Godfather either.

There's probably quite a few other ones that aren't coming to mind.

Napoleon Dynamite.

More on the way but that was the first one that popped into my head.

Seriously, that movie sucked.

That's because you are very Napoleon like. Serious. I hated The Lord of the Rings crap.

Hated would be too strong (at least for the first entry) but I'm not a fan of the Indiana Jones movies.

As Good As It Gets isn't very good either. Hated Jack Nicholson in it.

I wouldn't call it a great movie, but people rave about Green Street Hooligans. Not sure when it became "cool" to pretend to be Irish. I'm looking at you fake Red Sox fans. I digress.

That movie does nothing for me.

Not a great movie per se but known to be one of his best movies, I watched De Palma's Blow Out the other night and found it too goofy. Travolta is great in it, though, and some of the set pieces are good. Could have been a much more taut and intense thriller.

I couldn't make it through Good Bad and Ugly.

Ben Hur is loooooooooooong.

I can usually appreciate the classics even if I don't really love them so I probably don't have much for this list.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Wow, you and I definitely, um, differ on our tastes.

Love Indiana Jones and As Good As It Gets is my favorite Nicholson performance ever and one of my favorite movies of the 90s.

I've got a lot more "awful movies I love" than "great movies I hated".

Not even sure I can think of a movie that I hated that is considered great.  Maybe if I stretch the definition of either "hated" or "great", or both.

His character is a terrible person who never grows, which is fine except the movie seemed to think he did. Plus it felt like he was phoning it in.

There's a difference between appreciation and liking.

I can appreciate a lot of what Kubrick did in 2001, but that doesn't mean I like it.

Green Street Hooligans is about English hooliganism, not Irish.  But I get your point, although I love the movie.

I never liked Scarface with Pacino.  I thought the numerous white guys trying to look and act Cuban was horrendous.

I actually can't stand many of Kubrick's movies, with the exception of Spartacus and The Shining.  I actually am one of the only people who didn't like A Full Metal Jacket.  I thought Platoon was such far and away better movie.

That's one I forgot, I thought Scarface was terrible.

On Full Metal Jacket, I'll stop watching after the boot camp scene. I thought the rest of that movie is widely regarded as rubbish.

What?  His character never grows?  I think the movie did a phenomenal job of growing his character -- in the end he still has crippling OCD, but he's slowly learning to cope with it through his relationships with other peopel -- a lesser movie would have had him become a completely changed person overnight.

As for the phoning in of the performance, well, all I can say is I think you're absolutely 100% wrong there and I probably won't be DLing your podcast
