Johnson's last 2-3 seasons were a lot like Rice's season last year. Getting tackled behind LOS, no YAC, losing that burst of speed, etc. It would be a lateral move and I guarantee he'd be unhappy with anything less than a top tier contract and a 1,500 season. No way.
The top tier RB contracts are gone. All you have to do is look around.

Disagree. Terrible is exactly what he'd be.
He had one year where he was really bad in 2012. Other than that he has been far from terrible.

Not that far. He's never had a positive season grade from PFF.

I don't want to come off as in support of Chris Johnson, I'd like him on a cheap deal, he can do better than that I'm sure. I'd rather get a guy like Andre Brown who is going to take a cheap deal potentially and if he's promised a role while Rice is out it'd be a nice deal for both sides.
Also, when PFF become gospel in these parts. I know there aren't a lot of other sites that rate at the same level, but when a guy like Chris Johnson has never had a positive season grade, that seems a bit off to me.

He is terrible at rushing the passer, where most of his negative grade comes from. As a situational run defender, that is only asked to play 10-15 snaps a game you can do a lot worse. It's not like he is costing a lot or is being guaranteed a roster spot either. He needs to stay healthy and prove he can be productive. I don't see any problem with this deal.

Cody by most accounts has been a bust. Sadly he's just a big fat guy and doesn't have the strength to take on Olineman at the point of attack. I guess he's not terrible as a backup on a cheap deal unless one of your regulars falls and he has to primarily start.

Going off advanced stats, since he doesn't play many snaps, his Run Stop percentage has been meh to bad as well.

I will watch more of him, but I can't quite see his value.

I agree with this for the most part, but apparently he is healthy for the first time in a while. He has shown flashes of ability in run defense though. It's a one year deal with little value, so I don't see the downside. Its not like there is a roaring market for backup NTs our there.
