Just kidding. I'm into video games, scouting baseball, fantasy sports, competitive beer pong, and cooking. Somehow I squeeze time in for all that with 2 girls under 4, and still manage to sleep once in a while.

I became an avid woodworker in the late 90’s after watching New Yankee Workshop. I stopped doing it when I built a new house and picked it up again almost 10 years ago. In preparation for retirement, I built a woodworking shop three years ago and work out of that when not doing consulting work. I wanted to share my latest project.
I bought an old stadium seat from Memorial Stadium when it was demolished over 20 years ago - it came with a certificate of authenticity. It sat in my basement for almost 15 years before I finally painted it and made a wooden stand for it (it is a mounted seat, not a standalone seat). It had gotten a little rough looking, so I decided to refurbish it correctly last month. I had a local shop sandblast the cast iron sides down to bare metal and painted them black.
The bottom wooden slats are held together by steel rods and one of them had completed rotted. I found a site that actually sells the wooden slats - and they came with a certificate of authenticity. I bought a new set from that site. Unfortunately, either I ordered the wrong size or they sent me the wrong size; what they sent was an inch shorter than the back slats. I ended up cutting a half-inch off each end, which created a new problem of bolt holes that doesn’t match. I filled those in with bondo (I challenge anyone to show me where they were). I sanded each wood piece down to bare wood. It was cool to see the older colors as I was doing this. I saw a dull orange, a dull green, and grey. I then found a site that sells feet so that it can a standalone chair.
I painted the wood parts first with white primer and then with three coats of the final color. I then applied three coats of lacquer. I hope you like it as this was truly a labor of love.
FYI, Chris is going to post some photos for me.
