Welp...IT'S HAPPENING!!!

Boys and Girls in America" is my favorite album from the 2000s and is, in my humble opinion, the best album since "Ok Computer." The fact that The Hold Steady are playing a 10-year anniversary tour of its release WITH Franz (who was one of the writers on the record and whose keyboard playing is essential) is mind blowing to me.

The site says "limited" tour dates, which is a bummer but I'm counting on them coming somewhere close. Hopefully Philly, BMore or DC, but I'll travel further if I have to.

Huge news. Huge.

Three NYC shows in December:

Gonna try to hit at least one

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

They used to think it was so cute when she said Dy'er Mak'er
All the boys knew it was a joke about Jamaica
She'd always find a ride back home from the bar

She used to feel so stupid when they'd talk about the music
Born into every single tune
They used to hum against her lips with their hands on her hips
They used to kiss in the car

Dancing days, houses of the holy
Hot child in the city in the middle of the prairie
Flirting with the boys with all her charms

First the laugh, then the eyes
Then the touch him on the arms
Then the drinks, they never seemed to cost money
Saturday night was a runway that extended into Sunday
And sometimes Monday

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

I live in a nameless town

No need to wander around

I live in a nameless town

In a blackout

Many friends have said goodbye

Paraded out in one proud line

I say they all just lost their minds

Midnight where we used to dance

Underneath the ugly halogen lamps

Man it all went away so fast

In a blackout

I'lll wait for the year when the tide comes

Rolling over the rails

From here to the end of the island

Wash it all away

I rent a room with all our stuff

If you come home I'd lift you up

And there's only the two of us

In a blackout

Now you're sleeping in the back

Of a speeding yellow cab

Throw a kiss goodbye to all of that

That's some fucking lyrics right there.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

"Boys and Girls in America" aka the best album since "OK Computer" turns 10 today.

I'll share some of my favorite quotes (I've probably written some of them in this thread already).

She's hard on the heart and she's soft to the touch

She gets migraine headaches when she does it too much

She always does it too much

She said it's hard to feel holy when you can't get clean

As she's bumping up against the washing machine

She said it's hard to slow down when you're picking up speed

The scratches on my back the formed into a choir and belted out a chorus

I went away to school that fall
She stuck around with all those stick-pin dolls
Sped through the scene until the engine stalled

You don't have to deal with the dealers
Let your boyfriend deal with the dealers
It only gets inconvenient
When you wanna get high alone
You don't have to know how to get home
Let your boyfriend tell the driver the best way to go,
It only gets kinda weird when you wanna go home alone,

Guess who I just saw on Monday night's Seth Meyers show?

Evidently their 1st three albums are being re-released... so their agent got 'em on TV... Seth said they're one of his favorite bands...

52 minutes in... "Everybody's a D J"

Seemed OK... but the guy in the middle with glasses who recited the lyrics has a dang teddy bear sticker on his Telecaster... who puts cutesy teddy bear stickers on a perfectly good Telecaster?

Yea I caught it. The song is called "Most People are DJs"

I think they played it cuz Meyers is a huge fan and that may be a favorite of his

Personally it's off their worst album. Wish they had played something else. Oh well.

Craig Finn and Brian Fallon (Gaslight Anthem) are doing a co-headlining solo tour this fall - there's a show on 10/4 in DC, but no Baltimore date.

I'd go down to see that.  I need to listen to 'We All Want the Same Things' again, but I still freaking LOVE 'Faith in the Future'

Headed up to Philly tomorrow for the Constructive Summer Tour!

They’re playing the entire “Stay Positive” album to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

“Sniffing on crystal in cute little cars,
Getting nailed against dumpsters, behind townie bars.
It's a cute little town, boutiques and cafes.
Her friends all seemed nice, she was getting good grades,
But when she came home for Christmas,
She just seemed distant and different
