I've never been on a brewery tour...and I've decided I can wait no longer! So, I'm looking for advice on which local brewery to go to. Du Claw has a lot of brews I like, and they might be near the top of my list. But their website doesn't say anything about tours. Has anyone been there? Are there other local breweries I should go to first?

Flying Dog tours in Frederick are top notch.
Never been to Heavy Seas but their tours are supposed to be very good too.

I concur. The Flying Dog tour is cheap (5 bucks) and you get a very generous amount of beer at the end (5 "half" pours which are often more like full glasses). On top of that, it's a long, informative tour. They let you try the beer at every stage of brewing. Good times. And they have some tasty one-offs in their taproom that they don't package.
If you ever want to venture up to PA, Troegs is fantastic too. You can take a paid, guided tour, or grab a pint from their taproom and take a self-guided tour through the brewery for free. They also have unreasonably good food in their taproom.

I went on the Anheuser-Busch tour in St. Louis and got shitty beyond belief.
I know the beer snobs will hate it, but sampling the beer fresh out of the barrel was pretty damn tasty.

Been there as well and I approve that message.
Yuengling had an awesome tour. They take you down in the manmade caves carved in the side of the mountains where it had to be cold enough for lagers to ferment, before there was such things as refrigeration.

Fordham and Dominion share the same brewery in Dover and they offer a very good tour and tasting for $5. Evolution is a good one to hit up as well. I had the best brewery tour at Yards and their taproom has free shuffleboard and pool.

Me and a couple of friends of mine were at the first Evo tour ever, as part of a Bachelor Party weekend.

I've only been to one of the small breweries in my area, but it was still awesome. They gave us a food sampling, even had a good pairing. Can't beat free beer.

If you ever get up to central PA, I bet the Troeg's tour would be fun. I haven't been there since they moved to Hershey, PA. There new location is also about five minutes away from Hollywood Casino.

Stoudt's is cool too. They are in Lancaster, PA. I don't know if they do tours, but they have events and have a nice little restaurant:

Curious if anyone has ever done The Yards in Philly.
Plan on going up during March Madness with some friends to do the tour in the afternoon and watch games all day and night.

I've been quite a few times. It's a really cool place. They have a potentially great tour depending on your guide (bald, pale guy is fantastic), it's free and includes a fair amount of beer, and they have free shuffleboard and pool. It's not a great place to watch March Madness, though and they close at 7.

They have a TV or two, but it's not a great sports watching venue by any means.
They always have some beer that isn't widely available or available at all in bottles, so that's another plus. I was just there and had the chocolate and coffee versions of the love stout, both of which were quite good.
As for sports bars, Fox and Hound and Chickie's and Pete's are really good for watching games and have some solid beer too.

I'm thinking of taking a little trip up to Pottsville and Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania next weekend and doing the tour. Sounds like a cool experience.
Jim Thorpe was just named PA's most picturesque small town on USA Today so that's what got my interest and Pottsville is on the way up.

Went to the Yuengling brewery over the holiday weekend. Best brewery tour ever. Not necessarily crazy about the beer, although I do drink my share of it, but just from a historical and logistical angle, the tour was great. And, they still actually brew and bottle/can beer in the original building, which would be like Natty Boh still being made in the Brewers Hill condo building, which would be fucking awesome.

The brewery in Oregon looks awesome.
Brouwerij 't IJ in Amsterdam should be on the list. I went when I was there. It's in the bottom of a windmill. Beer is delicious, and surprisingly cheap.

I went to Harpoon Brewery up in Boston a few weeks ago. While we didn't do the tour (3 hour wait), we did just hangout in their bar area which was awesome. They also have a nice set-up where you can buy homemade pretzels as well.
In terms of the bar/bar area, I thought it beat Flying Dog (only other brewery/tour I've been on).
I'd really like to get to Heavy Seas and Troeg's this year.
