At least Pulisic/Musah/Milan did advance to Europa league. Poor Newcastle got a big nothing burger. Group of Death did them in.

Man C and Real Madrid both won on the road as expected. Real just 1-0 so Leipzig isn't dead just gasping for air. But Copenhagen lost 3-1. For all practical purposes they are dead. They are not going to Etihad and gaining 2 goals.

Took the 4 favorites in a parlay, didn't think Munich would be the one to blow it....

Bayern throttled Lazio and moves on. Good, can't stand that club, well their fans at least.

Mbappe, I mean PSV beats Sociedad and also moves on.

The match US fans are clamoring for is next Wednesday when Dortmund and PSV meet. PSV may well have three Nats on the field together. Dest at RB, Tillman at AM, and Pepi up top. So cool.

I keep trying to tell  you guys not to bet on soccer. Too low scoring and too high variance.  LOL

Real Madrid, PSG, Atletico, Dortmund, Barca, Bayern, Man City, and Arsenal are on to the Quarter-finals. Draw is tomorrow.

6 of the 8 were as predicted, although I did caution that Atletico could win. Bummed PSV lost out to Dortmund. They had the remaining US guys but alas it wasn't to be.

Quarters will be held in April and early May.

The road is a lot tougher from here on out. Bayern - Arsenal and Man City - Real Madrid are monster matchups. More to come on this round next month.

Bayern - Arsenal : I just have to give the nod to Arsenal. They are just playing well rounded soccer and have held off Liverpool and Man C in in the EPL thus far. They have handled the pressure well.

Man City - Real Madrid: Too bad this isn't the final or at least the semi's. Both sides are having great seasons but one of these giants is going home. A total toss up here.  Pay attention closely to today. Man C needs to win and preferably by multiple goals as Real has been an offensive juggernaut at home.

Atletico de Madrid - Dortmund:  One of the less exciting matchups to me. Neither team is having a super season. Both are fine but not even in a high enough position in their domestic league to qualify for UCL next season. But Dortmund basically dumped Gio Reyna so go Madrid....lol

Barcelona - PSG: Except that Real Madrid is having such a monster season everybody would be talking about Barca. This matchup is all a buzz about farewells. Xavi is not going to coach Barca after this season and Kylian Mbappe is going someplace out of France for huge money this summer. And Mbappe has had a monster contract earning season at PSV. Look for that to continue this round.

Both matches were draws to day.

Arsenal and Bayern tied 2-2 and Barca and Real tied 3-3. More scoring than you typically see at this stage especially in the first leg where teams tend to play a bit conservatively.

Barca beat PSG in France 3-2 and looked terrific in doing so. PSG scored twice in just a few minutes to start the second half and both goals, while nice, were shots that could have been saved.

and

Madrid beat Dortmund 2-1 so suck it black and yellow....lol

Dortmund hosts Atletico Madrid. Dortmund behind 2-1 after first round. Still see this as a toss up.

Barcelona hosts PSG. Barca leads 3-2 after the first leg. Don't see PSG outscoring Barca on the road.

Well PSG just may well do Barca in. Barca scored early to really make things tough but then oops and its a red card. PSG now leading 3-1 and 5-4 in aggregate. Barca has no choice but to go all out attack mode now.

So sad to see the red card derail Barca after going up 2.

Hell of a penalty by Mbappe though, not sure if I've ever seen a hesitation + power + placement combined on a penalty kick.
