I know a lot of people don't follow soccer but a monumental upset just occurred in Spain as Chelsea, playing a man down, beat Barcelona, the club many consider to be the best in the world (although I think Real Madrid is) to advance to the Champions' League final.

Hard to give it an apt comparison but Superbowl 42 comes to mind.

Bayern should absolutely destroy Chelsea. As much as I hate Barcelona, it's a shame that they didn't make the Finals simply b/c them vs. Bayern or Real Madrid (which would be like the Yankees playing the Red Sox for the WS) would have done a ton to raise international soccer awareness in the states.

As it stands now Bayern (playing in the home arena) vs. Chelsea is like the 49ers playing the Titans or something for the SuperBowl in San Francisco.

I usually root against English teams in UEFA competitions, but if it's a choice of Bayern and Chelsea, I suppose I'll root for Chelsea. They lost in such heartbreaking fashion a few years back, so I think their fans deserve some good news.

Chelsea wins in a shootout, 1-1 (4-3). Even needed an extra round of kicks.

No they didn't. It went as follows:

Bayern: Y Y Y N N
Chelsea: N Y Y Y Y

Thus, 4-3 in the regulation 5 kicks.

But wow, what a great game! What a great job by Chelsea to come back. They got outplayed the entire first 80+ minutes of the game. They didn't even have a corner kick until after Bayern scored! But once they changed the strategy to make a last gasp effort, it was an entirely different game.

I hope for Chelsea fans this helps them to get over their disappointment from their heartbreaking loss in the finals a few years ago.

And Drogba is one helluva player. He just comes up big whenever he's needed.

My buddy is a die hard Barca fan and he's absolutley heart-broken. Barca will need to score 4 goals in the second leg to advance IMO.

Just a reminder - the match will be on FOX, not FOX Soccer Channel.
