Bilas on the Terps (ESPN Insider)

60. Maryland Terrapins (Previous ranking: 57)

The loss to Duke was heartbreaking, a "cry in the locker room" effort. Mark Turgeon's team is close to breaking through and just needs a break. This team is better than its record.

So about the only intrigue remaining in this epic failure of a season is whether or not they can avoid becoming the first Terps team to finish with a losing overall record (or non-winning, even) in 21 seasons (1992-93). And it probably comes down to the VT game Tuesday, since the UVA game is an almost certain loss (although the Cavs probably won't have anything to play for other than NCAA seeding), and their chances in an ACCT play-in game probably aren't much better.

@EricPrisbell If Maryland fails to win ACC tourney, it will miss the NCAAs for 7th time in last 10 years. Speaks to tremendous job GW did from 94-04, etc.

Speaks to the poor job letting this program slip over his last 7 years.

A victim of his own success, some might say. Do you have anything new to add here? Do you like hearing your own voice?

Yeah sure, but you haven't added anything to the discussion that you didn't previously say. You're very predictable with your "blame GW, don't blame Turge" schtick.

The point is it was impressive what GW did, being a perennial tournament team including some deep runs. Sure the last seven years left something to be desired. Vasquez senior year was incredibly disappointing with the Lucious shot going in, but so it goes, I don't play the "if game" and I'm not going to paly it now. That last seven year stretch has still been much more impressive than the past three years.

Maryland athletics just announced via FB that the game against UVA is sold out to the "general public."

The Terps would have been pretty strong in horseshoes over the past five games, but in hoops, it translates to a 1-4 stretch, even if the losses to Virginia, Duke, Syracuse and Clemson came by an average of just four points.

I can confirm that the student section is not sold out. Tickets still available. They're letting us line up at 7:00 AM on Sunday, so we'll see how many do that. I plan on getting there around 9:45.

What % of the crowd do you think is the last ACC game versus UVA being a very formidable opponent?

Not sure. UVA would draw a big crowd anyway, given the close proximity of the schools. It's more of a rivalry in football than in basketball, but still a lot of dislike there. But they are doing a lot of stuff for the last ACC game. First 12,000 fans are getting a poster, and students are getting T-Shirts.

Students will go more because it's the last ACC game. General public might be split a bit more.
