North Carolina pulled pork 14th? Fail. That is #2 behind crab cakes, with Chicago pizza right behind.

California's should be the fish taco. Not the burrito.
Oh, and scrapple should be higher on that list.

Isn't that a regional dish for Southern California/San Diego?
I think that would be the rationale, just like scrapple over cheesesteak in PA.

Eh, meh, I dunno. I've had good fish tacos up in San Fran too. I just think one can get (and I have had) good burrito's all over the southwest, not just California. Whereas I dunno if fish tacos are as good in other southwestern states, where you can't get as much or as fresh fish.

This guy lost me once he crapped on New York pizza. New York pizza is likely the greatest food on Earth.

BTW they were obviously going to say crabcake for MD but I wouldn't have objected to a pit beef sandwich.

Best food I had in Chicago was a cowboy ribeye steak from the Chicago Cut. I also had a great, heart unhealthy, hot dog a few blocks from US Cellular Field.

Florida: Key Lime Pie with a scoop of freshly whipped cream.
My favorite dessert.

I get what he was trying to do leaving an empty plate for Nevada but with all the world class restaurants that are in Vegas, Nevada deserved better than that.

If any state deserved to have different selections on this, it be Cali between southern and northern.

Yeah, but should the state food of Maryland be a steak just because there's a Ruth's Chris downtown?

I doubt he's talking about chains.
I doubt that was my point

No, but the point of the article was the "cultural" foods of the area.
Well, the "culture" of Nevada is Vegas -- the lights, gambling, shows, booze, food, etc. So I'd have no problem if the "food" was simply a 3 course meal from a 5 star restaurant.
