The Pistons are officially back in Detroit, and people are excited!

That relocation never quite made sense to me. By spending all those years way out in the suburbs the Pistons cultivated their fanbase out there too. I get wanting to be in on the whole revival of downtown Detroit, but when you move farther away from your fans like that you can expect to lose some.

It's kind of like what happened to the Islanders when they went to Barclays. Yeah, you got nicer digs (even though the sight lines aren't ideal for hockey) but a lot of your fans are displeased enough with the notion of having to go from Nassau or Suffolk Counties to Brooklyn and back that they just don't come....and in the case of both the Islanders and Pistons I'm sure it isn't helping that neither have been very good for some time.

Blake Griffin traded to Detroit for Tobias Harris,  Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, and a first- and second-round draft pick.

LAC are also sending Brice Johnson and Willie Reed to Detroit.

Not sure what the point of this is for Detroit.

Griffin is now a Piston.

I am guessing he isn’t happy.

So much for a boring trade deadline season. Gotta think the Clips will be shipping DJ off next.

Wonder what this means for Doc too. He finagled his way out of Boston so he didn't have to be part of a rebuild. Welp, here we are.

Clippers will look to deal Williams and Jordan too.

Apparently, they feel LeBron will be interested in coming there and are gearing up towards that.

They want to dump as much salary as possible.

My guess is they will try to get him there by clearing the cap room for him to play with his friends, although I don’t know if CP3 will go back there.

Not sure what the Pistons' end game is here.  Unless they  just really wanted some sort of marketable star.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

They figure that LBJ is leaving and maybe they can be a real contender in the East next year.

I mean, who do you have outside of Boston?  Maybe Milwaukee but they need Giannis to stay long term.  Miami is always a sleeping giant.  Who else are you really worried about?

That may be part of it.

I think they're trying to make the playoffs, but I'm not sure that this will help much, if at all this year. Otherwise, this basically sets them up to be mediocre or a little better in the next couple years and potentially worse if Blake's contract becomes an albatross in the last couple years of that huge contract.

If he doesn't opt-out of his contract for the '21-'22 season, Detroit will be paying $39M for a player with a lengthy injury rap sheet who will turn 33. Ouch.
