ESPN: Buster Posey's jersey top seller

http://espn.go.com/m...lb-jersey-sales

Most Popular MLB Jerseys in 2013
Player Team
1. Buster Posey, C Giants
2. Mariano Rivera, P Yankees
3. Yadier Molina, C Cardinals
4. David Wright, 3B Mets
5. Matt Harvey, P Mets
6. Bryce Harper, OF Nationals
7. Derek Jeter, SS Yankees
8. Manny Machado, 3B Orioles
9. Mike Trout, OF Angels
10. Yasiel Puig, OF Dodgers
-- Based on sales on MLB.com/Shop

Manny over Trout, I'm somewhat surprised, probably Puig will shoot up this list.

I don't understand why Rovell is surprised that players with impending retirements jerseys are doing so well, especially when they play for one team. One thing I hate about buying jerseys for younger players is it looks dumb when you can't wear it anymore after they leave within 3-4 years. That's not an issue with Rivera or Ray Lewis. You can wear those jerseys in 20 or 30 years because they are legends. I see plenty of Ripken or Brooks jerseys when I go to OPACY and if anything, that signals to me, lifelong fans. Now if someone wants to wear a Matos or Bigbie jersey that will signal that they stayed through when the times were tough.

Yep, Rovell noted Wright/Jeter are the only ones over 30. If you got a guy like Manny/Puig/Trout/Harper, you know they'll be on your team likely for another 5-6 years. Players who've hit arbitration, unless they've signed an extension not so much. It be interesting to see the jersey sales numbers last year before and after Adam Jones signed his extension.

I absolutely can't stand when you see yankees jerseys with the players names on the back. I'm a stickler when it come to that sort of thing.

Red Sox and Giants also don't but just at home IIRC? Anyone know other teams that have this sort of practice?

Love seeing an Orioles player on the top 10. I'm surprised Davis isn't top 10 though.

Manny is younger, under contract for longer, I don't think the one-year wonder thing is there with him. If he played in a bigger market, maybe he'd be there. If he hits 60 homers, good chance he will.
