This is a pretty interesting story...The Clippers perhaps giving up major assets to the Celtics for Garnett and Rivers.  That in and of itself is very interesting.

But then, there is the news that if this happens, Paul likely re-signs and that maybe, the Clippers would then look to move Griffin to the Lakers for Howard.

Crazy scenarios out there, that's for sure.

Howard is maligned a bit too much, and when you factor in his all-around game, I do believe he is a Top 5-8 player. Certainly a better player overall than Griffin. However, if I were the Clippers, I would rather have Griffin.

Crazy. I always find the trading for coaches thing to be extremely fascinating.

Does/did Rivers have any say in this?

Rivers wants this.

It's apparently off for now.

The Clips weren't really willing to give up much of value. Nor should they imo.

The Dwight for Blake stuff is very interesting, but those teams are unlikely to work together on that big of a deal.

Great question, I could be completely wrong here but I don't think managers/coaches are like players with their contracts. I'd imagine he have to consent.

Doc Rivers is the Tony LaRussa of NBA coaches, except LaRussa atleast towards the end managed on one-year contracts IIRC. I guess Favre is another example.

Not sure how the Celtics go forward if this doesn't work out. Are they really going to keep Doc?

Yea, I think it was smart for the Clippers to walk away.

But why go after Scott?

As for the Celtics and Rivers, I have no idea how they stay together at this point.

I think Scott is probably third on their list now, but we'll see.

Shaw is the guy to get IMO...of course, you better get someone Paul wants to play for.

I am sure the Lakers would love to get Bledsoe and Griffin though...but can they do that?

If they can't keep Howard, it would make sense. Sterling loves Blake, though.

Until the next Clippers coach has signed a contract, I don't think it's truly over.

Well, sounds like Rivers won't go back to Boston no matter what (had trouble envisioning that happening myself). If you're Ainge, might as well try and negotiate some more and get something out of it. From the Celtics' perspective, not that much difference between him coaching in another conference or being on television.

Rivers isn't a good coach. He was canned in Orlando and was on the verge of being canned in Boston. Maybe he is motivating but I've never been impressed with any sets the Celtics run. I don't understand why a team would give up anything to trade for him.

Given the situation, could the Clippers have done better? I'm not sure, but it's not always about value as much as leverage. The Clippers want to win now.
