Mentioned this is the realignment thread. It's a great move for both Hopkins and UM, and definitely ensures the rivalry will remain. The days of being an independent in lacrosse are definitely numbered, with more conferences coming online to claim automatic tournament bids. I'm sure Hopkins saw this, combined with them missing the tournament for the first time in 41 years, and realized that barring an expansion of the tournament field they had little choice but to join an automatic-bid conference.

Yeah, saw this yesterday. It's too bad they couldn't stay independent (I have a soft spot for independent status, regardless of the sport), but I, like probably everyone else, saw this as a "do what you have to" sort of deal. I certainly see the preservation of the rivalry as a positive side effect.
