Maybe, or maybe the Knicks never seriously consider him if he weren't gay.

I'm not sure how anyone can think the publicity hasnt been a positive overall for him.

Because plenty of GMs don't want to "distractions" in the locker room.

Your logic doesn't add up. First it's the positive PR helped him, then when you see that the Knicks passed on him, it's well it's ok for a team to pass on a player because he's gay and you can blame the media, and now it's the Knicks may not have even considered him if he weren't gay.

The publicity has been a positive overall for him...after he signed. There is at least as much to support that him being openly gay hurt his chances of getting a job as helped.

Yes, ultimately the Knicks may have decided not to sign him because they thought he would bring more of a distraction to an already collapsing team.

I'm saying, I'm not even sure if his name is evenly seriously considered otherwise. Him coming out kept his name out there that much more.

So yes, I'm saying the media has helped and apparently also hurt him. I'm also saying the positive has ultimately outweighed the negative for him.

Why wouldn't he otherwise be seriously considered? There is nothing unusual about a player like him being considered when guys get hurt.

Maybe he would have, but he kept his name out there on the tips of people's tongues and the front of people's minds.

Yeah, because GM's and coaches would have totally forgotten about a center who just finished his 12th year in the league. Guys like him are constantly being considered in situations like the Nets were in.

Jason Collins remains with Nets (ESPN)

PR MOVE

Sources said that the internal expectation all along was that Collins would be a Net for the rest of the season, from the moment he signed his first 10-day deal, as long he proved that he could still be an effective defender, which he did immediately.

CBS SportsJason Collins says he's been taunted by one opposing player

"One player, one knucklehead from another team," Collins said in an interview with the Daily News. "He's a knucklehead. So I just let it go. Again, that goes back to controlling what you can control. That's how I conduct myself -- just being professional."
