The Atlanta Falcons are not exercising the fifth-year option on tight end Hayden Hurst, per source. He’ll be a free agent in 2022.

Calvin Ridley suspended for at least the entire 2022 season for betting on NFL games.

DJ Moore would never do this!

He bet $1500 on games and it cost him more than $11 million.

Ouch. That's got to hurt.

I hope he at least used one of the official betting partners of the NFL.

I disagree. That’s a hard line you don’t want to cross. Way too many variables to consider. Like friends, past coaches, refs you may know throughout the league, etc. I think shutting this kind of thing down emphatically is the only way to go.

So wouldn't that issue exist with anyone that has NFL connections through past work or relationships?

If he was with the team and betting on their games, then I would be with you. This isn't a concern for the integrity of the game. It's only maybe an inside info issue, which I'm not stressed about and is something that is a lot more widespread than this situation.

What Ridley did has just about no effect on anything imo. No effect on the integrity of the game, or no effect on confidence in betting, or desire of the public to bet.

Hard disagree. Shut it down in no uncertain terms and avoid bigger issues moving forward.

Teams tanking is a vastly bigger issue than something that we can slippery slope to death, which I get to an extent, but that's just about all there is to this one in terms of explaining how it's impactful.

Even if he wasn’t really with them at the time cause he was injured, he was betting on the Falcons. It’s a bad look.

The standard NFL contract says no betting on NFL games, period. Doesn’t that matter? I don’t like slippery slope arguments, but I’m ok with such an argument here. Integrity of the game is everything to the league, and when people are betting on their team’s games that comes into question. Asking NFL players not to bet on their team’s games isn’t some onerous requirement, and everyone knows that would be a big problem.

You're right that it isn't a big ask and of course that's it's a rule. He should get a consequence.

I don't see this really mattering in terms of integrity of the game though. It allows the NFL to claim they're all about the integrity of the game so that's nice.

I think it’s appropriate. But only if the owners who paid for losses are punished in a death penalty kind of fashion. Sale of the team, donate 100% of profits from sale, banishment from the league.

Could Ridley's wife legally bet on the Falcons? Serious question.

I am not surprised this is an issue.

I am sure that Ridley knew this was against the rules, but this is going to happen if it's legal to bet and the league has sponsors who are casinos.

Good luck to the young man with his appeal to the guy who suspended him for a season in the first place.

I think it should have been an 8 game suspension.
