It truly is a great thing. :)

Now just get Huff done and we'll be in a great position to be as good or better defensively.

If we can land Mike Huff after getting Elvis in the building (like the pun), then I'm a happy Ravens fan. out with the old and in witht he new.

I have friends who say "the ravens won't make the playoffs this year...." Okay....and we won't win a super bowl in 2012 either...heard that one too.

Aaron Wilson ‏@RavensInsider 2h

Just spoke to Elvis Dumervil briefly, he's out celebrating with his family. On joining the Ravens: "I'm happy. I'm good."

Pretty cool ...The defense is coming together. We still need 2 safeties and 2 MLBs

Arthur Jones on Elvis Dumervil addition: 'That's awesome. It's like a dream team in the making. I can't wait until we all get together.'

I'm starting to think our 1st rounder will be a MLB ....Either Minter or Te'o

We have two MLB's McClain and Upshaw.

McClain will be cut ...count on it!

And Upshaw is a OLB ...he wont be moved inside. He will spell Dummervil & Suggs

Upshaw could definitely be move inside in a 3-4 set, there have definitely already been rumors of them thinking about doing that. I see him playing wherever they need him depending on the rotation.

Not that I disagree with you Mackus and I value your opinion as a poster. But do you have a link for chatter about Upshaw playing in the middle?

5/$35M, $8.5M Bonus (over the 5 years) with a roughly $2.5M cap hit in 2013.
Leaves roughly $5M under the cap right now for 2013.

Basically they need 1 to 1.5 mil for rookies.

That rookie allotment will be covered by most of Pollards money.

Does the Suggs/Dumervil edge rushing combo become one of the most feared in the game? Dumervil looks to add to a Ravens defense that notched just 38 sacks in 2012.

I'm really interested to see how Dumervil's contract is structured for each year's salary.

My guess is it'll end up being a 3 or maybe 4 year deal in reality.

Elvis Dumervil was introduced as the newest member of the Baltimore Ravens' defense on Tuesday and said while he's always played with a chip on his shoulder, he may have a "brick wall" there now after being asked to take a pay cut by the Denver Broncos before being released after a paperwork mixup.

Dumervil passed his physical Tuesday and signed his five-year contract with the Ravens, which he agreed to Sunday. A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the contract is worth $35 million, including $8.5 million in the first year of the deal.

Dumervil said he has no hard feelings for the Broncos, but in joining the Ravens, "I just felt like it was time to change the scenery."

"I think at times in life you deal with people who say you can't do this or you shouldn't do that. In this world, you have to prove a point and prove yourself. I'm all about that. Year in, year out, that's what drives me. I like to go in as a rookie every year, where you have to prove yourself. I have a chip on my shoulder, I may have a brick wall now. I'm so excited. I can't wait to get out with the guys and really compete," Dumervil said.

Jason La Canfora‏@JasonLaCanfora1h
Elvis Dumervil's deal with Ravens looks like $17M for 3yrs. He makes $8.5M in 2013 and gets $11M guaranteed

Ravens have a $3.5M option bonus on Dumervil in 2014. His cap number would jump to $6.4M in 2015, counts just $2.5m vs. the 2013 cap

Brian McFarland‏@RavensSalaryCap51m
On base deal, Dumervil's Cap #'s will be $2.5M ('13),$3.375M ('14),$6.375M ('15),$6.375M ('16) & $7.375M ('17). Incentives will change that

So sounds like the base is 5/$27M. Assuming the option bonus next year is picked up, he's pretty much uncuttable after that year, as it'd be more dead money to cut him ($7.125M) than it would be in salary cap hit to keep him ($6.375M) in 2015, so it's gonna be at least a 3/$17M deal.

If he's cut after that third year, then there will be $4.75M in dead money on the books for 2016, though that is less than his $6.375M cap hit would be to be on the roster that season.

If he's not cut until before the final year, then it'll be $2.375M in dead money in 2017 instead of a $7.375M cap hit to be on the roster.

I'd say 50/50 at this point that he's cut before the fourth year, it's not a ton of savings and he may still be playing better than the $1.625M in cap savings could get us. Almost a lock he's cut before the final year, though.
