It's certainly a fair point that we've seen a lot of promotion from within on the defensive side of the ball but less so on the offensive. One reason has been that there has been less turnover on the offensive side, whereas we've had 4 defensive coordinators in 5 seasons under Harbaugh (Ryan, Mattison x 2, Pagano, Pees) and every time someone has left (two for head coaching gigs, Mattison for a college job but was likely on his way out for performance issues anyways) the Ravens elevated someone already on staff for the job.

It would make sense to try and add a QB coach who they feel could eventually succeed to the OC job, though I wouldn't necessarily be making that hire with the OC position in mind, moreso focusing on who can help Flacco to do the things that Caldwell is going to ask him to do. Basically someone who is very similar in mentality to Caldwell.

One candidate for the OC job who will already be an offensive coach next year is Juan Castillo. He was a poor choice as a defensive coordinator after years as an O-line coach in Philly, but he's got lots of experience and could be a candidate if Caldwell gets a head coach job after the season.
