Disagree a bit here and there, but a good overview/read. I do remember Duquette being more optimistic about the roster going into '12 than Mark does though.

We could very well be the 1996 Red Sox this season.

Duquette had pretty much this exact same approach with the Red Sox who missed the playoffs in 1996 with a 85-77 record and then went 78-84 in 1997. He finally realized he needed to do something major after 1997 to get the Red Sox back to the playoffs, and that was trading for Pedro Martinez.

Good response, Trea. Dan is obviously convinced that this team was more than a fluke last year.

I think that many may be missing the influence that Buck is having here. Not only must DD have confidence in Buck to meet or exceed last year's performance - but Buck is without a doubt very involved in how this team is constructed. And with PA's ear - you would have to think if Buck says he needs the extra $$ for a MOO bat or TOR pitcher - he would get it.
