Birds Watcher: How will you remember 2012?

It's almost time to officially close the book on 2012, and turn the page to '13... but here is one more chance to reflect on this past year.

I still struggle to put into words how awesome the 2012 season was for me. Needless to say, (I was 4 in 1989), this was, by far, the most special sports season for me for any of my teams, ever.

Pretty much.

I got to watch playoff baseball. Watching Adam Jones hit that home run against the Yankees in September (from home, unfortunately)...man, words can't describe.

Totally concur with this. Anything besides a WS championship will be hard to top this one.

Amazing. There were times at my deepest and darkest places as an Oriole fan, I really wondered if they would ever make the playoffs again in my lifetime, much less have a winning season. 2012 erased all that at once, while giving me hope that the success can be sustainable. All I want is for palpable hope heading into every April and we finally have that again. It was bittersweet to be in Europe whle the playoffs were going on, but it's still something I will never forget. I had so much fun at the games this year and I look to set an all time record for games attended in 2013.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

The year I rediscovered my love of baseball.

Amazing how years and years of ineptitude will sour a person who grew up loving, playing, and coaching the game on a sport that been a huge part of my life. I just wanted the O's to be relevant again and we got a playoff run.

I still have that full game saved on my DVR. I was there with some good friends. That, and the Ravens/49ers Thanksgiving game are my two most favorite sporting events I've attended live in my life.

Game 2 of the ALDS was my favorite Orioles game I've ever been to (the only sporting event that I've been to that was better was the 2007 NL WC play-in game with the Holliday "slide," but I had a very soft rooting interest in that so wasn't the same). I also enjoyed getting to go to Opening Day for the first time, the Wilson Betemit walk-off game, the Markakis extra inning homer one in DC, and the doubleheader against Toronto.

Random thing: SBTarheel thought he couldn't go to the game, and was going to leave me a ticket, but I turned it down (I think my wife had a girl's night out that night, or something, and I had to put the kid to bed. I forget.). My wife ended up not going at the last minute. I'm not mad at her for it, but it still irks me. That's one of those moments you live for.

That sucks man. Yeah, it was the first time in my life that I've seen Camden Yards like that. And when Wieters ball found the front row in the 1st, the place just absolutely erupted. The stands were shaking.

I will say that going to the playoff games mitigated it somewhat. While the A-Rod strikeout was cheered for pretty loudly, I think Matusz's shutdown of the Yankees was probably my greatest feeling there. It was one of those, "Holy crap...this is actually happening" moments.

2012 will always be the first Orioles playoff that I truly remember. It was the first season I saw true success, even though it was totally unlikely and improbable.
