The quick take is PED's, right? I think that more pitchers are throwing better off speed pitches, which is slowing down bats a bit, not allowing them to pull as often. Even the hardest throwers were throwing some off speed pitch 20 percent of the time. That's enough to disrupt timing for sure.

Not sure why the quick take would be PEDs. Why would they be less prevalent in '11 then in '08-10?

I agree with Can_of_Corn that it's due to small sample size.
As for PEDs, they do not help you see the ball better.
