If Duquette is unwilling to part with the young pitching, then the Orioles have little to trade that is of value. There will be no major trade for a power bat.

It's as simple as that.

Apparently they are unable to get the "significant" power bat even with the young pitching.

If those feelings prevail across the game, all the more reason to keep the arms.

Oh for sure. I don't mean to say that Mike is with a team or anything, but I respect his opinions highly just as I do yours, Dan Moroz's, etc.

Just saying that there is a lot of interest in our guys, but like I've been saying, everyone wants to get them cheap because none have broken out yet. Morneau is also dealing with a negative value situation between the injuries and the contract, so it comes down to young, cheap pitching or old expensive 1B who is about to walk?

It's always funny when guys talk about how a 25 year old has no MLB success. No one said these kids were established veterans, so ummm duh.

I've talked to actual MLB people that have said Twins are selling everything and going full rebuild, just a matter of how long it takes. They probably do value Morneau more than they should, because what else do they have to sell? Mauer, who everyone is worry can't stay behind the plate, and the bat doesn't play well enough in the corners, Willingham, who is a journeyman coming off a great year, and that's about it. It's kinda bleak in MIN right now.

For sure. I floated the idea of Britton & a C prospect for Morneau which to me is fair value. For most O's fans that's probably too much.

Yeah... hold on to the pitching if we can't get the deal we want and then sign Reynolds. Re-evaluate at the 2013 break.

For a one-year rental? Yeah I think it is a little high actually. If the Twins are paying the entire contract maybe.

I'd say something like S. Johnson and Avery is probably a bit closer, but I could see one of the 4 going for him if the Twins kick in enough money.

I think I'd rather have Willingham than Morneau from Minnesota.

Both are owed $14M, but Willingham is over two years instead of just one for Morneau. Willingham has been very consistent and is a near lock for an 825-850 OPS, only below that once in his career (810 in Oakland in 2011). Morneau was mediocre at best last year. Maybe he can get back to the MVP-level performer has was in 2010 before the injury, but I doubt it. I know Willingham is 2 years older, but he doesn't have the injury or performance concerns than Morneau has, and the offensive upside is pretty similar if not higher unless you think Morneau could get back to his MVP-levels. Willingham can play LF and Morneau can play 1B, though both are likely better suited for DH.

If the packages are the same, give me Willingham.

But what do they want trade for it? It's one thing to think that...is another to give up YOUR assets for it?

Now, I don't doubt they have good value but how good is it?
