Does anyone think Bourn could end up on the Os list?

Philly is out...Seattle will be out if they get Hamilton, which they will if Greinke goes Texas, which seems likely.

Boston signed Victorino.

Where could he go and any chance the Orioles look into him? And do you want them to?

I think I'd rather give Hamilton $110M or so than Bourn $65M or so. Would also rather sign Swisher than Bourn, if the money is similar. Or Sanchez.

His price would have to come down a lot from what I expect him to get for me to think he'd be the best use of our money. But I would keep an eye on him just in case his value does come down.

I agree with this entire post...but the last sentence you wrote is why I was asking....what if all of a sudden he is 4/50-60 type guy? Not that I expect that to happen but if he is, would you all want us to be involved in that number or still no?

If he can't get a big deal from a contender (or near contender) he will just open himself up to losing teams and get a pretty good sized deal. They just limit their original list until the desirable teams are gone.

Yes, I would want to be involved, assuming that the other guys sign for numbers that don't make more sense than whatever it would take to end up landing Bourn. My "reserve price", if you will, on Bourn would be pretty low, though. I think he'd have to be quite a relative bargain to sign him, move Jones to LF, and move McLouth to the bench.

How would an outfield of McLouth, Bourn, and Jones look, moving Nick to first base?

McLouth would go to the bench.

Actually, I'd like to see an outfield with Jones, Bourn, and Markakis from left to right.

Pretty bad, what with the bloody grass and all after Bourn and Jones fight to the death for center field.

During his chat today, Keith Law stated he did not feel McLouth would be able to do what he did last year and that Tillman and Schoop are too much to give up for Butler....he really likes Schoop and thinks Tillmans success is sustainable.

Yeah I know he's always been real high on Tillman and Schoop, and I am definitely in the minority on McLouth, I'm sticking my neck out on him in the analyst sense, but I'm pretty confident in it, so we'll see. It's up to him now.

Well, the point that is in your corner are the injuries and how they coincided with poor play.

And you may be in the minority nationally but not locally...I think most Os fans are on your side in this.

But whatever...it's a 2M gamble..that's nothing. You have to do it assuming that you won't allow his signing to stop you from acquiring a better everyday LFer if one is there to be had at a price you are comfortable with.

The deal is so cheap it's worth seeing if he can keep the comeback going. He still might end up being the 4th OF. I don't think anyone can argue with the signing.

Agreed and even if he isn't quite what we thought, he is going to give us all he has every night. Plus, we haev options, which is more than we can say for past years.

ESPN: Baseball goes zero for Nashville?

http://espn.go.com/m...winter-meetings

ESPN: Plenty of unfinished business

http://espn.go.com/m...etings-business

Baltimore Orioles
During the meetings in Nashville, we kept hearing that the Orioles were motivated to add a big middle-of-the-order bat via free agency or trade. But Josh Hamilton, Nick Swisher and Billy Butler rumors failed to gain any traction.

If the Orioles decide to stand pat, they would begin the season with an outfield contingent of Nick Markakis in right field, Adam Jones in center and a Nolan Reimold-Nate McLouth platoon in left. Chris Davis, Alexi Casilla, J.J. Hardy and Manny Machado slot in around the horn, and Matt Wieters behind the plate. The big mystery item is whether Dan Duquette, Baltimore's executive vice president of baseball operations, will add to the position player stockpile by moving Jake Arrieta, Brian Matusz, Chris Tillman or one of organization's other young starters not named Dylan Bundy.

"We have a full complement of players in the field, and we have a good pitching staff that's returning," Duquette said. "So we have a very competitive club as it's currently constituted. We're going to continue to look and try to add a couple of things to our ballclub. But if we were to break today, we would have everybody returning except [Mark] Reynolds and [Joe] Saunders. I think we have some capable people who can do the job they did for us."
