@NBARUMORS: According to sources, the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers are discussing a trade involving Amar'e Stoudemire and Pau Gasol.

This is a trade that makes sense for the Knicks IMO. Gasol is a better fit with Carmelo that Amare.
As for the Lakers, I am not sure it does not make them worse. Not enough basketballs for all the ego's.

Not only that, but when you look at Amare's contract, in particular 2014-15 when he is owed over $23 million (albeit a player option) and compare it to Gasol whose contract expires after 2013-14, it makes even less sense for the Lakers. Especially if Kobe retires (his contract expires when Gasol's does) and Nash will be 40 by then, the Lakers might need to rebuild that summer and could use the cap space to go after LeBron since he can opt out of his contract with the Heat then.

I have heard people say that Amare is better for this offense than Gasol is.

Whatever..Gasol is signed for less and is a better player.

Amare is no longer the athletic freak he once was, which is a big part of why he was a good fit. Otherwise, they both are good mid range shooters, Pau is a better post scorer and defender.

And, he has good chemistry with Kobe..which is important IMO.

I find it odd that the Lakers would even think about this deal.
