After a dominant victory over Illinois tonight, Maryland advances to the Big Ten Tournament’s Semifinal Round for the first time since 2016. They’ll face off against Michigan, who knocked off Purdue in their Quarterfinal Round matchup. Dusty May’s team shot the ball very efficiently tonight, particularly from inside the arc. They also valued the ball better than they typically do, committing just six turnovers.
Maryland beat Michigan 71-65 earlier this month in Ann Arbor. The Terps didn’t shoot the ball particularly efficiently in that game but took advantage of the Wolverines’ mistakes, forcing 16 turnovers and scoring 21 points off of them. Vladislav Goldin and Danny Wolf each scored 20 points, but their backcourt struggled to make any sort of impact.
Maryland is 10-13 all-time against Michigan, but have won their last three matchups. Their only meeting in the Big Ten Tournament came in 2021, a Quarterfinal Round game which the Wolverines won by 13 points while Juwan Howard was trying to fight Mark Turgeon.
