Maryland wins, 83-59. About as well as you could hope for them to start conference play.

 

Next game is a big one, as they'll travel to West Lafayette for a matchup against #8 Purdue on Sunday afternoon.

Is Gapare legit? He looks like a very good 6th man off the bench. Can shoot a little, make his FTs, obviously athletic, can play defense.

He looked like an All-American tonight. If he can be a somewhat consistent alternative option to Queen that'll help immensely.

He's looked really good the last few games, playing with a ton of confidence. I love his energy, he was still diving for loose balls out of bounds with less than a minute left in tonight's game.

Still a number of games to be played tonight, but as it stands Maryland has jumped up 11 spots in KenPom's rankings to #19 (5th in the Big Ten).

Reminds me of a taller Ian Martinez. Lots of energy, athleticism, defense, maybe a better offensive game.

The whole squad played with an intensity, especially notable on defense, that I don't feel like I've seen in forever. That was the most impressive thing to me. Hard to keep up for 40 minutes and 25 more games or whatever... but if they can bring that effort often, should be a nice season.
