Following a 27-point loss to Northwestern last week, Maryland remains in College Park for a homecoming matchup against USC this weekend. This is the first-ever meeting between the Terrapins and Trojans. Lincoln Riley's squad is coming off of an overtime loss to Penn State, and like Maryland have lost two straight games.

 

USC enters this game as 7-point favorites, and ESPN gives them a 66.3% chance to win.

The blowout was largely a product of 4th Qtr turnovers by MD, a team that was actually #1 in the country in turnover margin headed into that game (though they were terrible at converting those takeaways into points). While MD certainly deserved the loss, Vegas probably views the NW margin as flukey, and combined that with the fact that in the new Big Ten teams that have had to travel 2+ time zones have fared pretty poorly so far. The Trojans as a TD favorite playing on the other side of the country sounds right.

Also Maryland will definitely care about this game more than USC, this is Maryland's chance at getting a win over a pretty famous program while this is just an annoying roadtrip for USC. That might not count for anything, but they almost upset OSU and Michigan the last two years by playing them right before The Game so there's definitely been crazier things than Maryland really putting together a good effort against a prestigious team they've never faced before

I'll be pleasantly shocked it this game is even competitive midway through the 4th. Evans on his weekly 105.7 segment with Haynie wasn't excuse making, but ended it with his obligatory "need the fan support" message trying to drum up some ticket sales. It's not happening Damon. At this point this is 100% a "program has to show something worth spending time and money for" situation.

Do whatever it takes to hire a marquee head coach and recruiter. An established name with success. Make an annual game in Baltimore happen, also against a top tier team. Win SOME games against top tier teams on occasion. Then you'll see more fannies at games in College Park too.

DL Lavon Johnson and DB Brandon Jacob will officially miss this game with injuries. DB Dante Trader, Jr. is listed as questionable.

EDIT: It’s now announced that DB Braydon Lee will miss the remainder of this season due to an injury. Maryland’s secondary extremely thin heading into this game.
