Good... if you only look at the basic box score stats. We didn't force 2 turnovers. Baker quite literally gave it to them. Both INT's were passes a good QB doesn't make. He literally threw it right to Humphrey both times.

The defense did NOT have a good half, or game. They got lucky they only gave up 10 points in the first half. Baker being Baker. For the game they gave up 28 first downs, let an offense go 11-17 on 3rd down, and gave up 481 total yards. Their kicker missed a FG. And Baker killed a drive with a facemask in the 3rd quarter. Once again, unforced errors. The only thing that stopped TB's offense last night was Baker Mayfield himself, not our defense.

But if you take away their two and a half quarters of getting smoked, and only focus on the times they didn't get smoked, they don't look so bad!

I DO think the Humphrey INT in the end zone was a great adjustment breaking off his assignment to make the play. What's insane is that Ardarius Washington missed that wildly bad throw from Baker. He really did his best to bail us out.

I'm including the first quarter, just not caring about the late TDs up by 24 points very much.  I'd be downright enthused if that didn't happen, but those garbage time scores don't concern me nearly as much as the good play through 3 quarters encouraged me.

I don't think they're a particularly good defense yet, but the last two games are trending in the right direction and make me confident that we won't be a bad defense over the remainder of the season.  I'd pick average to good if I had to guess how we'll play defensively  from here forward.

I thought Humphrey made a good play on the first interception.  Maybe you make the argument that he should just throw it away because it's a throw in traffic.  But Humphrey wasn't particularly close to the play because he was covering the TE running a quick out, and then he made a really good adjustment to get back to the ball.

The second pick though... oof.

Rewatching the game and I thought the defense did fine through 3 quarters with only allowing 10 points and having a handful of sacks and 2 picks, all with Marlo being out for most of. The 4th they were clearly playing prevent, which I don’t like, and had 2 fluke occurrences lead to scoring: terrible backwards pass turnover and another onside kick recovery. Should they have been better in the 4th, yes, but I chalk it up to them knowing the game was over and just kinda trying to protect themselves from injury. The Bucs should have followed that philosophy and they would still have Godwin.

I don't think he broke off his assignment. I think he was in a zone. The TE on the quick out went back inside and Humphrey let him go to the inside coverage, and drifted back to the reciever coming across the back of the endzone. I think it was good assignment football. He released a guy and found another entering his zone. And Baker misread the coverage and tried to be slick and snap a quick throw to the right thinking it was man. He threw it right to Humphrey. Credit to Orr, think he called a good coverage there. But it wasn't some phenomenal defensive play. It was an unforced error by Baker.

Agree with 2035. Give them a C- , C at best. They weren't "good". They were good enough.
